1 We watch these coaches scream at these kids every week. What makes this ok????? We wonder why our children today are so violent. HELLLOO!!!!!Look at how their leaders are acting towards kids who are just trying to figure out what life is all about. Grow up already you cry babies, and let the parents have their air time. Some people don't affix their lives on big mouths. Let go and let the kids be kids. COACHES......Be a bit more discreat in the screaming at the kids. DO YOU LIKE TO BE EMBARRASED IN PUBLIC?????????? |

Who are you to critize a volunteer trying to teach your child (who probably isn't paying attention and that is why the coach has to scream)!!! I don't see you steping up to volunteer!! I give anyone who volunteers a pat on the back, it take alot of patience and to deal with a bunch of idiot parents who feel that you should not raise your voice at their kids is very difficult. Maybe your child shouldn't play a sport if you want them to be treated like that!!!! |

Not all parents are bad just a few but those few who cause trouble on our team need to get a life and shutup!

My daughter plays soccer; due to her being sick for the start of the season we had to drop out of the fall season. she was switched to another team this season; we have no problem with the way the coach handled the kids, he showed them the basics of the game, and by the coaches screaming at the kids; i think they are trying to teach your kids the importantence of being competitive; yes it is just a game; but they need to learn the fundimentals of playng sports and trying theri best. others wise they will grow up to be cry babies.

1 I was a volunteer coach a number of years ago. Obviously, I think highly of people who put in the time and effort for what normally is a thankless job. With that said, young children need to be nurtured and treated with respect. I have not witnessed these soccer coaches who are being accused of screaming, etc., but if it is true, there is no place for that when being a role model in a position of leadership. Just because a person volunteers to coach doesnt give them the right to behave like a raving maniac. And its not just soccer - Ive seen it in baseball, football, you name it. Its supposed to be fun....Now dont me wrong - as the kids get older toward middle school age, the games become more competitive and the best kids play - believe me I am not advocating that playing time should be equal, etc., but at the least, talk to these kids when you coach them, they tune you out anyway when you raise your voice. And why is a coach yelling anyways - because an 8 yr old kicked the ball wide of the net...Its not about you - if a coach takes a loss so personal that they need to vent that anger towards their own players, then that person needs removed....If these coaches truly are screaming - then thee MYSA officials needs to find new coaches... |

1 Dealing with hard-nosed coaches is like listening to Howard Stern. If you don't like what he/she has to say, turn the station (i.e., have your child play for another coach/organization), or turn the radio off (i.e., quit). If you don't like how a particular person coaches, ask them if this is their coaching style to yell at the kids. If they say 'yes', you can always leave, or YOU can volunteer your time to be a coach. Different coaches have diffeent styles. Now, in defense of MYSA's coaches, some kids NEED to be yelled at, e.g. the ones that don't listen, that don't hustle, that are constantly goofing off at practice. YOU as their parent need to discipline them and let them know that they ARE NOT ALLOWED to waste the coach's time at practice. The kids are there to practice and listen to the coach -- if the kids want free-for-all playtime, go drop them off at the playground. And don't expect your kids to be in the starting lineup for game day if they never come to practice -- THAT'S not fair to those kids that show up for practice every day. I don't care how good they are. |

1 As I once saw on a tombstone: "No one is innocent,...but some are more guilty than others." If there were no leagues, then kids in this area wouldn't play soccer. Why stop there? Breakup all sports leagues; close down the YMCA; turn all high school football stadiums into community gardens. If soccermom doesn't like the league format -- leave. It's that simple. Heck,...let her start her own league/team. Let her hold her own camps, clinics, etc. Let her start a soccer fun day meetup group where kids can get together and just kick a ball around. My suggestion is that she get involved and stop complaining. The MYSA is always looking for volunteers; I've NEVER EVER had a problem with anyone in the organization. Stop complaining, volunteer, make a difference in other kids lives, not just your own. Trust me,..it's actually quite rewarding. |

1 I know one thing that coaching should not invite: verbal abuse, & I swear I've seen enough of it over the years, even w/my next door neighbor to his own kids who played football from peewee up to High School years. |
