Judged: 2 1 1 You should be ashamed of yourself Barbara. You must be talking about The Bronx when it was burning back in the 70s and everyone had written my precious borough off. How dare you say Arthur Avenue is not a safe block? Have you had the opportunity of visiting the Bronx lately? Yea, including your so called "doomed" block Arthur Avenue? If you have, you probably didn't recognized it and just passed right by it! Yea, Barbara my dear, the same Bronx that was burning in the 70s is burning no more! Real estate has gone up since the 70s honey. The average home costing almost 1 million dollars. When stores such as Target, Best Buys, Costco, JC Penney, Macy's and other major department stores decide they want to open new branches, they don't go downtown to your Manhattan anymore sweety, they come to The Bronx. Yes that was not a misprint, I repeat, they come to The Bronx. According to statistics Arthur Avenue is one of the safest streets in New York City. Don't believe me? Do your own research and don't dump on the Bronx, my Bronx, like you do in your Manhattan. Next time, before you condemn an area in my borough that you know nothing about... take your time and do some research. Get true facts. And remember... when your not sure of something.... it's best to keep your mouth shut and be considered an idiot than to oepn it and remove all doubt! How dare you! |

All together, this is a great article. DH and I will soon be moving to New York and have been interested in learning more about The Bronx, especially Little Italy.(We're from Boston's North End.) This article gave a great overview of the neighborhood, touching on nearly every aspect a new comer/visitor could be interested in. Thank you - we're going to start packing right away!

Judged: 1 1 1 As far as the Bronx being safe, it is just like any other neighborhood. Be alert in the areas of the south Bronx. You will get no respect driving in the Bronx. Road courtesy is out the window. The drie like they are the only one on the road and actually going nowhere. The worst drivers in New York, especially in the South Bronx. Thank goodness for respect, italian men are cherished and respected to a high degree in all the Bronx. There charisma, sense of humor, good looks and respect towards all women, make them a oddity item to the areas female population of many different ethnic women. If you dress to the 9's, and are italian you are a star in the Bronx. Go to the Bronx zoo and the Botanical garden while there. You can also go to City Island and eat in a waterfront setting while there. |

I grew up on 2008 Hughes Ave at 179th St. and Crotona Ave. and Crotona Park North (Arthur Murphy Houses)
I miss the Bronx and that neighborhood like crazy. If I had the nerve I'd move back. Unfortunately it's not close enough to a subway and in reality, although Little Italy itself still maintains its appeal, the surrounding area is not particularly safe. It wasn't all that safe in the 50's when I was a kid, either. N.B. I've lived in Washington, DC for the last 32 years. |

I was two times in NY for visit one of my friend. He live in Morris Heights (Popham Avenue) in Bronx, Maybe is a dangerous area for me (I'm white boy, from Paris), I don't know.
What you think about this area? I came back again this summer in July. I like the Bronx, but in the same time I feel not safe in the street, specially late night, people look-me strange, like I'm crazy to walk around this areas. Is really dangerous or is only my sensation? |

Judged: 1 1 1 you know, I hear a ton of critisism about the way a place such a s brooklyn is portrayed in "A BRONX TALE." The truth is this came from one mans soul. This was his portrayal of life as he see's or saw it and it was fabulous. Chazz Palminteri plays and writes parts from his deep soul. It is a very hard thing to do, put a story on paper. Weather you want to believe it or not, the parts he plays are from real people in this world. Believe me I know. He is one of the lucky ones that got his stories out there for the world to enjoy see and even critisize. I could only wish for a portion of his success in being a story teller. I have a similar story from Buffalo, NY 70'S & EARLY 80'S. It is called "RETRIBUTION - DEAD MEN TELL NO LIES." (fiction - barnes and noble) I wrote this book also from my heart and soul. I have completed the movie scripts Parts 1 and 2 and only wish I could get it to Chazz to check out. He knows the road I am trying to travel. This man is a great man and has brought to life an era now gone. The neighborhoods are all but a memory, and when some one can bring alive the past and it helps keep it alive in others that is a true gift we must cherish. Like he, I have done that with my Sicilian saga of a kid from Buffalo that has passion, respect, life and courage, But my guy also has a dark streak with his dreams. Trust me, this will be a film and its a story worth telling. Chazz palmiteri, thank you for all you have done and have inspired, you are a true story teller.
