Too bad the urge to not sit around didn't strike him many months ago while he was sitting at home soaking the taxpayers. If he was still getting benifets then he'd be happy to sit at home.

Booooooo Hooooooooo!!! A nine month PAID vacation, and NOW hes getting concerned? Pump gas, flip a burger, clean a toilet, whatever it takes to survive, but too many are using the unemployment checks as a crutch, while those of us who work 10 hour days have to listen to the crying about "I need more money for free" Gimme a break, you had 270 days to find a job, take some responsibility rather than looking for more handouts. No Sympathy from Me!!!!

The folks who ignored Kitty Genovese's cries could have taken lessons from you...talk about heartless! There are times when it takes months, or even years, to find even the most menial of jobs. Assuming that you're not an atheist, you should thank God that you've never had to learn that firsthand. BeachBum wrote: Booooooo Hooooooooo!!! it's really hard for me to feel bad for someone who has been on unemployment for 18 months...it really is..I am fortunate, very fortunate to have my job, don't get me wrong...however, I HAVE to believe that if a person who hasn't found in job in 18 months, well I have to really question how hard that person was actually looking for a job. It's a good thing I have a job so those who don't can sit home, watch TV and eat chips while I earn a living for them...GOD BLESS AMERICA

I agree with everyone's point that 18 months is a long time to be on unemployment. However, it is really tough out there. I am very fortunate to have a secure government job. There are a few jobs out there but it is hard paying all your bills when your bills were based on $20-25 an hour. Now the only jobs out there are fast food paying maybe $9.00 an hour. If the person takes this job not only does he or she not make enough to pay there bills but it ends up netting less than the unemployment paid.

The unemployment rate is nearing 10%, this does not include the people whose benefits have run out and are still unemployed. This also doesn't consider people whove have found jobs for a lot less money-they may have a job but they can't meet thier expenses. People with no change in thier job status have cut back in spending in fear of what would happen if they lost thier jobs. Ameica is stressed right now but we will pull through- we always do.

The sham economy run on credit has finally ground to a halt. No that the politicians and Wall St. has profited by sending jobs first to Mexico and then to SE Asia, what are we going to do now with our "service sector" economy?????

My job is safe, my husbands job is safe, but I do feel really bad for the people that have lost their jobs are having a tough time finding a job that matches their qualifications.

Thank you WOB, you statement is true to the fact. My room-mate lost his job 8 months ago. He emails or applies for jobs EVERYDAY and has very little luck even getting interviews. Wow. To all that people have jobs good for you. I understand his situation. I have been unemployed for 6 months. In GA, the unemployment rate is 10.4%. I have many friends, neighbors, old co-workers without any job. I have been looking for months and been on a few interviews, signed up to three temping agencies, and just graduate college in June. I am in $50,000 in debt just from school loans. I have worked since I was 16 years old and this is the first time I ever had to collect unemployment. It's hard not to be depressed and go to interviews when there is a room of people who applied to the same job. I am look everyday. I have a notebook with every job I applied to whether if it was lower salary. Someone told me I was over qualified for the a job. I think some of the previous comments were alittle harsh. Good luck to anyone who is in the situation. Why can't people show support instead of being harsh??

By May I had 3 solid job offers, but had to take about a 20% pay cut. To make up the difference I have taken 2 part time jobs. I have no free time now but am actually making a little more money than before. Most younger people don't know how to find jobs and how to interview. Groovy girl's friend sits at home sending emails. You have to be out hitting the street. For my part time jobs I approached retailers who were not even advertising job openings. I sent them thank you letters for giving me the opportunity to talk with them. The key is: you need to make yourself stand out.

Your ability to hustle and take care of business is admirable, Larry. However, there may be some relevant variables that we are not considering. Perhaps GroovyGirl's roommate is hardworking, but has less charisma than you (and therefore a lesser ability to charm interviewers). Or perhaps, despite your age, the extent of your work experience makes you a more attractive candidate than her roommate. None of what I did to find work were my own ideas. One needs to be able to sell themselves.

I worked at the car factory for 20 years.I made 30 dollars an hour to put the left front tire on.The union said I would have a job for life if I gave them part of my check each week. The union kept the money and gave part to help elect their man president because he likes helping people too.Now nobody buys our cars anymore because they cost too much or they are inferior to the cars that the little yellow people make. They are called capitalists and they sure are smart. Now I may be losing my job,but the union says that it is ok because their man will come and save us.That is good because I can't do anything else and I really don't want to learn how to adapt and improvise. The union guys are doing ok because all the money they got from us added up to millions, they will retire nicely.Of course this is a fairy tail, but sometimes children need to have things sugarcoated so they wont spit it out.

KARMA Baby!!!$30 an hour to put on a front tire, and you didn't feel OVERPAID? You did a job a monkey could have done, and NOW a robot does. If you were smark you should have horded that money you got, it was undeserved and karma finally got you. That racist comment you made about yellow people was out of line, who knows you may be waiting tables in the near future at a yellow persons restuarant. that would be JUSTICE SERVED!!!!
