1 The building has nothing to do with these layoffs. If tiara is not profitable, instead of 95 people getting laidoff Holland would be losing 600 jobs. My heart goes out to the 95 people losing their jobs. |

Selling a jet would not make tiara more profitable. Strong sales and controlling of costs is what makes a business profitable. If sales are down you don't need as much labor to produce your products, hence the layoff. Thats basic business. |

It does not cost that much and it may be VERY necessary to impress new clients and win new business. Selling a jet is not whats going to keep jobs there. For Tiara to keep jobs Tiara needs to become more profitable by winning new business, cutting costs and improving efficiency. It's sad when anyone loses a job but too often times people are quick to blame the employer. Sometimes life sucks, business declines and there isn't much anyone can do about it. There are plenty of jobs in the Holland area. Gentex for example is hiring like crazy. |
|
Seems to be a trend in Holland. So many jobs have been lost here in the last few years. At least they are trying to stay here. Hart & Cooley closed it's doors last fall and moved out of state. Lifesavers moved to Canada...

I've noticed with alot of these "big" companies that have done the lay-offs the end up hiring more people shortly, it's kind of been the continoius improvement way of life...Thank You Toyota!!

True... but Lifesavers is back in the U.S. now. They just didn't come back to Holland. I think Tennessee is where the new factory is if I remember correctly. |

I certainly agree. Everyone is really quick to blame Granholm on this one. Is she the mayor of Holland? How come I read about all sorts of economic good news in Kzoo? Not quite true here in Tulip City. Kalamazoo Promise, yes. Holland Promise, no? Only promise we get is increased BPW bills, higher taxes, & paying for the Prince airport. Let's hold local government somewhat responsible for some of this. City council, city mgr, McGeehan. Let's have some accountability @ local level, too. Not just Lansing's problem, as McGeehan loves to claim. |

The owners of Tiara Yachts did everything they could to spare their employees.... they are good loving Christians with good hearts. With the economy the way it is, lay-offs were unavoidable. You can't blame the governor or Tiara for this!!!
What is it with you people that you are so quick to blame someone/anybody when things go wrong??? |
|
Thank you Angel Eyes. You see very clearly! There are many reasons behind the economic mess we are currently in. To lay the blame on any one person is quite dumb. To a certain extent each & every one of us is to blame is one way, shape, or form. Many of us have made choices that have led to the current consequences we now see. |

Exactly. Thats what I was trying to explain in my earlier posts. It's just business, if people are not buying boats then Tiara does not need as many people to make them. I don't know why people have such a hard time seeing clearly. |
|
My herat goes out to all of the people who got let go from Tiara. I agree with the person who said that the owners of Tiara are good christian people and did everything they could to keep their employees working. I am sure that the decision to lay off was not an easy one. They considered every employee a part of their family.

I only read these post because people like Jerry make me feel soooo much smarter. |
