My husband is working on the pipeline in Vicksburg for the next 4-5 weeks. He is staying up there in our camper. We would like to go there to join him some weekends. I have 7 year old and 2 year old boys. What kind of things does Vicksburg have for familes to do? Thank you!

I take my 2 year old daughter to the "Art Park at Catfish Row" in downtown Vicksburg every weekend. They have a great playground area with lots of equipment, but her favorite is the splashpad. It is basically a bunch of fountains spewing water at different heights and pressures. The kids love playing and running through them. Sometimes the weekends can get a little crowded, but the earlier in the dat the better.

We also have the Military Park on Clay St. The 7 year old may be interested, but I doubt the 2 year old would get a lot from it.

Here is a link that may be helpful. Good Luck and I hope you enjoy your visit!

Thanks for the info. We have several of those splash parks where we live and they do like going there. But we go to one or another nearly every day in the summer. Are there any kind of zoos, water parks, arcades, bowling alleys, etc, in the area. Also do you have any restaurants that you recommend. I went up there this weekend and we could only find one restaurant - a Mexican one. I guess we are just spoiled where we live.

I checked out the web site about the art park at that seems cool. Is it located down the road from teh Ameristar casino where it is blocked off now. Or do I turn right there by the barricades? Also is this the same place where the famers market is held? The next weekend I will be there will by July 4th. Does Vickburg do anything for the holiday.

The kiddie park is near the Farmer's Market which is closer to Horizon Casino instead of Ameristar. Uusually Vicksburg has a nice July 4th celebrate with a band and really nice fireworks that night. Rusty's Resturant is on Washington Street just above where the Farmer's Market is located and the food is good. Also there is another resturant on the hill going down to the Farmer's Market. It is relatively new for that particular location and I haven't tried it yet. The kids might enjoy a Mississippi boat ride on the Sweet Olive at the riverfront on the other side of the wall from the murals. However, that might be a bit pricey. Vicksburg lacks a zoo but Jackson is only a good 35 minute trip away and it has a zoo and other activities. Vicksburg's drawing cards are the national military park and the antebellum homes. They have a baseball league for kids, a City Pool and a pool and program at the YMCA that you might check out. The kids can have ice cream from a business on Washington Street near the corner above Catfish Row. I will return to Vicksburg around July 6 and remain there the rest of the month to work on a small house I bought for my retirement.

Oops I forgot Borrello's Italian Resturant near the corner of Washington Street and Clay Street. I enjoy the food there too. McAllister's Deli is on East Clay Street near the outlet mall as is Cracker Barrel Resturant. The one and only bowling alley shut down. There is a movie theatre at Pemberton Mall. If you want to see scenery, ask how to get up to Eagle Lake particularly if you all like to fish.

Daily Horoscope for December 25

Aries

You've got a taste for adventure today, so you might decide to depart from tradition in some way and make it an unusual Christmas. You're certainly all set for a great time, and you'll want everyone else to enjoy themselves as much as possible. You'll probably eat and drink too much but, hey, it's Christmas! Isn't such excess par for the course?
