Maybe you should know what has happened before you comment or make judgement.

All the picture that are being shown of the refinery explosion are of Holly Oil Refinery.
The smoke stacks and fires are coming from Holly.

Thanks for bringing us the views of Charles. Technical experts on signals and sirens are hard to come by. You are obviously fortunate to have one living nearby.

This explosion took place less than 1 mile from my new places of employment the Best Western CottonTree Inn in North Salt Lake and the Hampton Inn Salt Lake City North. I checked in with both properties and luckily there was no major damage. Apparently there were at least four homes that are damaged.

How long has the refinery been there? how long have the residents been there? exactly. They knew what they were moving in next to. Not that it snuck up and surprised them. Idiots.

Refineries are a dangerous business and by their very nature, they sometimes have fires and/or explosions. People who work in the facilities know this and mentally adapt to the danger. People who build homes and try to raise families in the vicinity of a Refinery are "nuts". All I can say is the lots must have been too cheap to pass up. Refineries literally spend $millions each year trying to make their Reinery as safe as they can possibly be. Besides the personnel protection these Safety programs/actions provide, they reduce the amount of expenditures that must be made to damaged equipment which runs much more that the Safety programs they have.

Daily Horoscope for December 10

Aries

One of the family needs plenty of love and attention today, but the trouble is that you may not be able to spare the time. If so, you'll be consumed with guilt and self-reproach, and this may become so strong that it casts a blight over the day. So do what you can to let them know you're thinking about them, but resist the temptation to berate yourself over things you can't change.
