I am pleasantly surprised at your endorsement of Barack Obama. I agree that his election has the potential to bring positive solutions to the problems we all face. An effective leader who can inspire and challenge us to do our best is what we need at this point in our history. But let's not forget that we have the responsibility to give our best efforts and make sacrifices as we all work together to find equitable solutions to our nation's problems.

I TOO AM VERY SURPRISED AND, MAY I ADD, A BIT DISAPPOINTED IN THE "D-T". I THOUGHT THIS LOCAL PAPER WAS MORE IN THE CONSERVATIVE SLOT. MY LACK OF JUDGEMENT NEEDS A TWEAKIN'!

Well, just look around us. Something has to change, and that's for sure.

With the calm, cool, and collected Presidential presence that Barack had in the debates, combined with tons of experience to pull from in Joe Biden...

I think the Daily Times made the logical choice.

Are you sure it's only your lack of judgement that needs a tweakin? Where do you get your idea that Daily Times is conservative?

Good choice. McCain isn't a bad guy but the people he has put around him are just awful. Let's hope and pray for a better future for America. Obama 08

HELL, I DON'T HAVE A CLUE! I GUESS I'VE BEEN AROUND TOO MANY "CONSERVATIVES" FOR TOO DAMN LONG, SO LONG NOW THAT I FIGURE THAT SOONER OR LATER AT LEAST TWO OF THEM CAN GIVE ME THE SAME ANSWER WHEN I ASK THEM HOW TO DEFINE "CONSERVATIVE". IT'S JUST LIKE SOME OF OUR POSTERS WHO DON'T KNOW THEIR LEFT(WING) FROM THEIR RIGHT(WING).

A striking development recently has been the endorsement of Barack Obama by prominent Republicans. The most notable was Colin Powell, whose influential statement can be heard by Googling "Colin Powell Meet The Press", but others include former Republican Governors, as well as Charles Fried, who was Ronald Reagan's Solicitor General. Despite some policy differences with Obama, they have seen him as more stable, better informed, better qualified, and less impulsive on critical issues, including the nation's economic crisis.

Even more important, as the election nears, they have grown terrified at the thought that Sarah Palin might become president in a complicated and dangerous world where her incompetence would put the nation at unprecedented risk. Even with the hope that a Palin presidency would never occur, that same alarm has impelled them to doubt the judgment of Senator McCain in selecting an unqualified candidate for the second position on his ticket.

Senator Obama exemplifies family values. He honors his parents, grandparents, and his extended family in Kenya, Kansas, and Hawaii. He has been married to one beautiful woman for sixteen years and has two delightful young daughters. He's worked in communities to better the lives of children, teenagers, and families. He respects women and works to uphold their rights. His economic proposals are designed to help and lift up working families. He has detailed plans to make health care more available and affordable for all families. He has his own Christian faith, but does not impose that faith on others. He leads by example, with integrity and compassion.
In recent debates, Obama has outlined clearly his economic priorities. Invest in diverse energy sources; invest in fuel-efficient automobile technology; invest in American jobs; invest in small businesses and the middle class; provide tax-relief to 95% of American individuals and families; invest in Head Start and in students pursuing higher education; invest in preventive health care. He’s done his part in this campaign, letting us know who he is and what he stands for. Across the miles from rural Alaska...Thumbs up on your endorsement of Barack Obama as next President of the United States.

I would imagine that the threats have already begun to come in. Not to mention the neocon conservatives canceling their subscriptions. Imagine the wailing tonight in all the churches that endorsed McCain/Palin.

What a nice surprise. I didn't expect this from a New Mexico publication, and I'm glad to see the voice of reason prevail. I voted for John McCain for senate and supported him for President until he picked Palin as his VP. He should have gone with his first choice, Joe Lieberman. A McCain/Lieberman ticket would have won in a landslide, but Palin pushed me over the line. This time around, I'm voting for Obama.

This was a real surprise! I thought DT was a staunch Republican & Conservative newspaper. Most people running the newspaper must be young and up to date with the 21st Century.
I just hope the conservatives don't think about becoming terrorists themselves with the outcome of the election in November.

I agree with the general consensus on Palin, she probably wasn't the best choice for VP, but as everyone keeps saying about Obama, Palin is fresh and exciting but lacks experience, as does Obama!
Obama is a smooth operator and no one can take that away from him, but what I ask is a very simple question I need answered.....who is Obama? please let's all be truthful and sing the praises of his righteous upbringing (yeah right,Moms an Athiest, Dads a radical Muslim) his phenomenal accomplishments while in College (really, no one seems to be able to find a single fact about his college years) and definately all of the great things he accomplished once he moved to Chicago as a Community Organizer/Activist (ACORN, etc. etc. etc.)and of course his solid religious beliefs (20 years in the same church, with his close friend, a hatred spewing radical activist who definately preaches from a different Bible than I am familiar with!) and of course his close "personal" friends like that good ol' activist and domestic terrorist we've heard so much about Mr. Ayers! Oh; wait a minute, these are all the things "all" of the red blooded Democratic supporters who love our Country so much have either failed to question or refuse to see! So once again, before you waste your precious vote on fears "Old Man McCain" won't live out a term in the White House, you better be danged sure you know who the "Real" Obama really is! Socialism doesn't sit well with me no matter how eloquently the cherry picked speech reader with less than 200 days in Washington denies it, or gently shoves it down our throats! We all know McCain, no secrets, no hidden agendas, no "friends" that he would rather denounce than have by his side, and no Socialism! Please wake up before it's too late and he turns our Country into his "friends" personal playground and we can't get him out of office. GO McCAIN!

Yes we all know McCain. he voted with Bush 90% of the time.

Just say no to McSame/Failin, say no to four more years of the same failed policies.

Well thank you for the heads up on Senator McCains voting record, but as an intelligent person who obviously watches a lot of TV; hence the 90% of the time statement, let's talk about Obamas voting record, he was right in there also, but you must have been away from the TV getting a Venti Latte when those commercial aired..........
When will people understand that Omama has less than 200 days experience and in his short time in Washington, he was a newby and "everyone" who knows "anything" about Washington knows that the newby votes as he is told if he wishes to make it within the old guard! So, my question still stands for those who choose to defend my statements against Obama; WHO IS OBAMA? not even the greatest press organizations in our country can get a complete timeline history of this smooth talker!

Senator Obama has published two autobiographical books and has spent the past year and several months under intense scrutiny as he ran in the primary election and now the general election. There are plenty of "complete timelines" of Obama's life. By now, the excuse that Obama is "unknown" is ridiculous; his policy positions, personal views, and biographical details have been well-documented and easily available for many months. If you are still asking yourself who Obama is, it's not because he and his campaign have failed to provide information, but your own lack of research.
