And what is wrong with "Whie history month?" We can be as proud of our heritage as anyone else. Why should I not celebrate, I have nothing to be ashamed of. Either do away with all the ethnic history months or add all of them. Simple as that! Why should we be discriminated against. My ancestors fought heroically in every American war, so the white people and ethnic groups could have their freedom. Even if there weren't ethnic groups, the prejudiced people would still find something or someone to malign. I have been prejudiced against because I'm a senior citizen, my grandson because he has curly hair, my granddaughter because she has a hunched back, my husband because he's crippled. Unfortunately, there will always be insecure people who will find fault with someone or something.

When will someone else speak out against the term Anglo...not all white people are anglo. Most are anglo-speaking people, meaning that they speak the common english language, but using the blanket term anglo in reference to white people, is like saying indian to a navajo...take the time out to find out. I am of Eurasian descent, far from the Anglo-Saxon people of the north!

Why is the mention of a White or Anglo History Month repulsive to Diane McCants-Allen? The numerous contributions of Euro-Americans to the building of our nation have been more significant than any other group. Why should the recognition of the great inventors, doctors, writers, artists, statesmen, and civil rights leaders be repulsive? Were the soldiers who gave their lives in the thousands during the Civil War to free the slaves not worthy of recognition? Were the white civil rights riders that were murdered during the struggle in the South less worthy of recognition than the blacks in the same car? Every month is Not white history month. Because of the racist attitudes of people like Diane, PC-attitudes prevent even the mention of our ancestors' good accomplishments for fear of "offending" all other races. Someone needs to stand up and let our children know that their heritage was rich with good people doing the right things. This shouldn't be seen as taking away the good done by others, but instead should compliment their accomplishments to show that we have all worked together to make this country great.

Maybe the reason there is no "outcry" about anglos being discriminated against or not having an event is because it is useless. Anglos are bad, they are the cause of everyone's problems, etc. I am very proud of my heritage and don't need a "month" to celebrate. I would however, appreciate not having everyone else's ethnicity rammed down my throat a month at a time. Do away with all the "months" and celebrate being an American - time to throw the race card in the garbage and get over it.

Why shouldn't there be a white history month? Whites have contributed just as much as any other ethnic group.

White is a misconception and has nothing to do with heritage. Heritage should come from your ethnic background, not the color of your skin. If you go way back to your young school days, we were taught that there were whites, blacks, yellows, and reds. Most fair skinned people are considered caucasian. This includes all peoples of European, and parts of Asia. Yes, even the Spanish are caucasian and nothing other, but most ignorant people want to call them Mexicans. People in this country are caught up in stereotyping and trying to distinguish who is who and what is what. What real difference does it make what skin color you are or where your ancestry originated. Most people here in the USA are immigrants (not technically). Our ancestors came from abroad, from another continent. So even us fair skinned people are not native to this land. As mentioned in a previous posting, the Anglo-Saxons were the peoples of far northern Europe, ie: Denmark, Sweden, Norway. My skin is as white as the next caucasian, but because I have a spanish surname that doesn't make me "white" at least not in the eyes of some very ignorant "white" people. But I just laugh it off. Personally, I don't think we should have Black or Hispanic Hertitage months, because yes it is a prejudice. We should have an "I'm American Heritage Month" and each race or heritage should celebrate it in the tradition of their ancestry. If we who claim to be Christian, skin color shouldn't matter or who we are shouldn't matter, because we are ALL brothers and sisters in Christ!

I ask Chairman John, a Navajo, why celebrate White History Month. In the early days, Indians lived happy and enriched cultural lives before the White People invaded this God-forsaken Indian Country. The White People did not ask to live among the Indians, but rather took by force the land and attempted to exterminate the Indians and resources. In essence, the Indians rightfully belonged here in this country. All others are called "immigrants" or rightfully so... illegal aliens.

It is anybodies land that settle here. Unfournatily you couldn't defend it.

The ignorance displayed by the commission members is absolutely unbelievable. The commission should be disbanded. It is obvious that the divisive attitudes are not doing anything to promote unification of our community. It is just more pot stirring. No white history month because is it is, "repulsive". What are we? One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Why do I get the feeling that in 6 months to a year, this thread will be several thousand posts long and full of racist rhetoric?

The US of A has been celebrating "white" history "month(s)" for as long as I remember; it is disguised as celebrating a whiteman's birthday and such thing as a whiteman's cultural event (St. Paddy's. So I think we've all been assimiliated to White Culture from the beginning. It has only been within 30 years that the non-White cultural events have been observed.

If you do some scientific research you will find that the navajo people come from Mongolia. The DNA of a navajo and an inuit are almost identical. They came into this area, ran out the Anasazis, they are not native to this land. They may have been here for a few hundred years but that is about the extent of it. The navajo people discriminate greatly against every other race, whether it is the white, utes, apaches, blacks or hispanics. It is time to do away with all the history months and Martin Luther King Day, not even our presidents get days named after them so why should he?

Takes me back to my high school days, just 6 years ago...our high school mascot was the Uintah Ute. Only those with provable Native American heritage (not necessarily a tribal member or even a Ute) were allowed to compete to be the Ute Princess, an annual competition that involved a scholarship prize. Yet, the roughly 80% caucasian school were all pulled out of class into an assembly to watch the competition.

Why is White history month repulsive? Since why are Anglos repulsive? If there is a ethnic group that is shown the most amount of racism it is the caucasions. I am tired of having to watch what I say. TIred of trying not to offend people when I don't have a racism in me at all. When people obviously don't care if they offend me at all.

How is it contraversial to have "white history month" but not black history month? I am not racist nor have I ever been but this sounds rediculous to me. I believe there is amazing history in every culture and if one is allowed to be celebrated than why not all of them?

Ya gotta love Mr Wood. He said what most of us thought. If anyone was repulsed by the idea, they should be removed from the Commission as unqualified to serve. Its Ok if we don't have white history month. THe reaction of Ms McCants among others says it all!

Your controversial Scientists have been wrong on all fronts so far. YOur scientists and so-called anthropologist so-called discoveries have become controversial or became political for the sake of money. Who really knows the imergence of the Natives well other then the Natives themselves. Political scientist never really listened to the immergence and the true cultural of the Natives, but chose to set their own idealogy for the sake of monetary and unproven prestige. The Natives are now referred to as Native Americans, a title setting the Natives back as third or fourth class culture only to be discriminated against.
