No I’m not saying Indians on the reservation are uneducated!!!! if you will see other comments people are saying that if she would have been a Indian on the res she would have already been put in rehab spending 30 day there free food, free room and board... And then get out of rehab and soon get another DWI and then another… just a cycle that doesn’t have a huge success rate
I don’t know if that is true or not for reservation Indians but it was just my dumb comment… I was not being racist or putting down Indians… believe me some of my best friends are Indians and I work with many educated Indians… sorry if you all took it wrong… she is a Spanish educated woman and I know race has nothing to do with anything I was just trying to make a point and some people took it wrong, Race shouldn’t even be an issue…. But they are all talking about prejudices and rehab that makes no sense…. One mistake she shouldn’t have to give up her life for it… like I said lets put the shoe on the other foot, and see how many of you will be looking at things differently… I guarantee you all have a kid or family member that has had to deal with DWI and no it doesn’t make it right but it happens…
Sounds like a lot of backpedaling to me. Your words were very telling.

For you to say "I guarantee that you all have a kid or family member that has had to deal with DWI" is highly presumptuous. Maybe DWI is a common thing in your family and in your circles. But I've got news for you! There are many, many families who -- by the instilling of virtues and respect for the law -- have never dealt with it. And no, it is not a result of "luck", it is due to the clear distinguishing between right and wrong, and discipline (real consequences for bad behavior).

Let's get one thing straight......Vic Titus did a good job of clouding the actualy facts of the case....but the judges decision (not a jury) came down to the simple fact that the city attorney was totally unprepared for the case. By not having the one necessary witness there to testify, it did not allow the officers the chance to lay the foundation for the breath. The officer observed a violation, his observations led to tests, she failed the tests and was arrested. Plan and simple. Until the city gets a full time criminal attorney, these people will continue to get off on a variety of things.

Not to be rude, but you don't know her as well as you think you do. I could tell you some things that might change your mind. This is not an isolated incident, and she needs to wake up before she hurts someone. Her kids and family are hurting from actions like this already, and that hasn't stopped her. What will?
By any chance did she steal your boyfriend in High School?

Oh give me a break you pompous ass… your shit smells just like anyone else’s… Humans make mistakes and if you are living a perfect life then maybe you should run for President or something… oh maybe you don’t live in the real world… I was raised with morals and values and know how to distinguish between right and wrong… but I know people and family members who have made a mistake…. You can instill all virtues and respect for the law you want… but mistakes are still made… No one is perfect! And no I’m not backpedaling! Everyone reads into it what they want… and you obviously are warped and see and read what you want to… Fine by me miss think your flipping PERFECT! I work in the school system and your 6th graders are having sex, smoking pot, and drinking so open your eyes!

Thank goodness you're working in the school system around 6th graders and they have someone like you to look to for their virtues, morals and values. If I had a 6th grader I'd want them to be around you all the time!

From what I've heard about those close to this situation at Aztec High, Maestas was actually administering breathalyzer tests to the prom-attending students, if you can believe that, before she decided to hop in a car, sloshed, with a few friends and head to the Top Deck, and continue her drinking ways inside! How's that for hypocrisy: kids, don't drink, and we'll test you to make sure you aren't -- but I WILL REFUSE to cop's attempt to have me take a breathalyzer test!
This seems to come up nearly every year around these here parts at prom time: drunken teachers, or in this case, an administrator who deserves demotion back into the teaching ranks (no, better yet, get rid of her b/c students don't deserve this anti-role model hypocrit) reliving their adolescence at potentially -- every other safe driver's expense. Luckily, the corpulent Ms. Maestas didn't run over any kiddies this time!
Knowing the way this county and its judges, and school officials, handle such bad judgments, she WILL SOON BE PROMOTED TO PRINCIPAL! Woohoo, San Juan County, Drunken Teacher on Prom Night-USA! YeeeeeHawwww!! Hey Melissa: Real nice mug shot there too, if UGLY is a good thing!:(

Sweetie, you are missing all kinds of punctuation which makes it really tough to read. Try a period and maybe a comma and some capital letters. No one can take your point seriously if it is written as if from a moron. Without punctuation, the phrases can change drastically.
For instance:
"They would have walked if they had known it was a lot of laughing."
and:
"Having fun may not be the smartest thing to be doing."
Are you sure your spelling and punctuation are correct?????

So, if you have nothing of value to add to the argument, you have to dilute the issue with racist remarks? That is pathetic. Maybe it is time that you sign-up for remedial Kindergarten so you can learn the golden rule... If you can't say something nice (feel free to substitute “non-racist” and/or “of pertinent value”)... don't say anything at all!

have you never made a bad decision? Yea RIGHT if you say NO!
You made a bad decision by posting your inferior opinions here. This issue is getting ridiculous. In addition, the opinions stated elsewhere in these forums which assert that every arrest should end in a conviction and "28 days" in jail is illogical. The taxpayers cannot possibly afford to maintain a program that incarcerates every person arrested for at least a month.(However, if we did try to make that happen, where do we stop? Ask a victim of domestic violence and they are likely to agree that a month in jail for that law violation is a great idea too.) We need to find a series of preventive measures that will stop a person from driving impaired instead of concentration only on punishing (and then lodging personal smear campaigns against) accused drunk drivers. The police have a set of rules that they have to work within in the course of their duties. The judges and the attorneys have WRITTEN laws that limit the power that they have. This is the beauty (and frustration) of a democracy. If you don't like the laws, contact your congressmen and representatives and work to change the laws.

On a side note, I'd be more worried about the "slightest degree" clause of the law which seems to be that if you have a B.A.C. below .08 and the officer fails you on a sobriety, you run a very serious risk of a DWI whether or not you were actually impaired as it comes down to a subjective jury call (as what judge would doubt the word of an officer)?

I've read some jury instructions lately that make it very hard NOT to find someone guilty, even with the burden of proof on the state.

George Snyder and Aggie_Cowboy you are so Smart! Your intelligence is beyond any one else in the county, judicial system etc. Before you mouth off about Judge Aldaz or the City of Aztec schools or city government you need to learn to read and to comprehend what you read. There are many Municipal court Judges and NOT just Aldaz-Mills. Unfortunately in your deranged mind you dont understand the meaning of Municipal courts and how and where cases are assigned. Apparently you have had a run in with Aldaz, city of Aztec and perhaps the school system and things did not go your way? So you think that everything that happens County WIDE is being tried through Judge Aldaz-Mills court and within the City of Aztec? Learn to read and comprehend before making such idiotic comments. You guys are a Joke!

Could you please use a comma (,) or a period (.) somewhere? Talk about run on sentences.
