it is obvious that you folks are using the slang meaning for the term "fairy".
how ever in this case it is for a garden in miniature for like the supposed wee folks like sprites, fae, etc...
.
http://www.fairygardening.com/fairygardens/ A Fairy Garden is a miniature garden complete with structures and actual living plants. It is designed to lure fairies and with them, good luck, to your home. Itís a tiny space created and tended with love. The design and components are limited only by your imagination and the fairies encourage you to be extra-creative in crafting the perfect abode.

I must give credit where it is due. This is one of the most readable/literate post I have ever seen from you. Good work.

in a way, the Japanese invented them in the form of bonsai trees. some trees have a lil garden scene as part of the planting.
plus it is a good way to teach kids about gardening if you do not have the yard space for one.

I am male. I'm just saying, its nice to see that you can compose a legible post. I think you sometimes get caught up in a war of words and tend to rush your replies on other threads. Not to sound mean, but it makes your posts hard to read at times.

Correction Sangelia. The Chinese developed this practice of making miniature landscapes and keeping trees in pots. It is called Penjing.
The Japanese refined the art to the level it has reached today and as you mentioned, is known as Bonsai. Bonsai literally translates to English as "tree in pot".
