Amber I am one of those types too. I have lost over a hundred pounds twice in my life and I am only 41. I have come close to having the surgery, but I am going to give dieting one last chance before throwing in the towel and having the surgery.

My sister has a terminal liver disease among other health issues that has caused her to gain a lot of weight over the last few years. She has done the dieting but she cant do the exercise because of the constant pain she is in. She is in stage 2 of her disease and she only has one more to go. The gastric bypass is what all her specalist say she needs to help fight this disease, but her insurance will not cover it. We have tried to raise money to help but it isn't enough. There is no cure for this disease but they say that if she can get the weight off ASAP then it will give her a fighting chance to live will this under control. My sister is only 26 years old and she has a beautiful 9 year old little boy and a great husband that try to give her hope, but every day I see a ltitle more of her giving up. It is almost like we are going to just sit back and watch her die and can't do anything about it. You see thisis why people still hope for a doctor that will do surgeries pro bono b/c if not it can't be done. So to all you that think you can just stop eating and lose weight you are wrong. Some people actually have legitamite issues that are not going to be solved by just not feeding their face. If anyone knows of any way to help my sister (April)
please write back and let me know. Thanks

Gastric bypass is a death sentence-there is a reason some imsurance companies refuse to do it--obesity is the most common form of starvation!!!- get the weight off through heathy eating, don't skip meals, eat 5 to 6 times a day --- balanced meals: a protein, a complex carb and a veggie--- by skipping breakfast alone or skipping lunch she could be gaining fat.

Ruby is a great new reality tv show that could motivate you

I can only walk about 10 feet before I have to take a break. If there is someone out there that can help me please contact me at ursomebody2@live.com Please visit my webpage at givingbackwithlove.org You can make a tax deductable donation by clicking on my non-profit organization UR Somebody.org . Wow, my daughter saw something about a doctor out of Texas doing pro bono bariatric surgery. Is it really true? Wow, I wish that I could be a candidate. My middle child daughter is getting married in a couple of months and I would love to look/feel so good about me and to be able to walk down the isle and not feel that I am an embarassment to her or to go to my son's school for a PTA meeting and not afraid to sit in the chair. I hate my weight. I hate the way my stomach lies on my legs. It hurts so bad. I can not hold my son or grand kids my lap confortably. I don't eat much, I will starve myself. I need help desperately.

I am taking MERIDIA - forget the bypass. It works I have lost nearly 30 pounds in 3 1/2 months. It is slow and safe. And most of all it isn't an amphetamine.

I live in San Antonio and I read this article in 2007 and got super excited. I contacted Dr. Alexander in writing and called and was told that I was placed on a waiting list for the pro-bono surgery. They also sent me a brochure with before and after pictures and information on Dr. Alexander and staff. I was stoked to say the least. Two months went by and I called to see where I was on the list only to be told that they had no more funding for the pro bono gastric bypass surgery and that they could not help me, and then they hung up. I cried for the whole day. Don't waste your time with this clinic.

I am a 42 yr old mother of two kids and also take care of my mom and sister. I have become diabetic and have asthma and high bp. I also have osteoporosis and fibromyalgia. I have been hospitalized twice this year and told due to miocardiopathy of the heart that I might live 3 more years without the surgery. I have also developed a hernia which needs to be corrected. My health is in poor condition but I'm told my lifespan will be very short without this surgery. I would rather risk dying having the surgery than to live the life I'm living right now. My kids cry for me because I cannot find insurance or financing for RNY which is what I was told I needed since I'm now weighing 310 pounds due to massive steroids given for treatment of asthma. I would do anything to live and be able to have gastric bypass. I have prayed for this for about 5 years now because without it there just isn't a chance. My knees are giving out on my 5'4 frame and I have fallen about three times in the last 3 months just walking. If there is a doctor out there with a heart who would do the surgery for me I would pay him back every chance I got for the rest of my life in order to live and be here for my kids.... I am a single parent and I'm all they have. My mom depends on me as does my sister. I have recently lost my job due to all of my illnesses and hospitalization and have filed for unemployment but have not heard anything. I believe with this surgery that I could work any job I wanted to once I lost the weight. I know if you can find it in your heart to do the surgery God will bless you many times over! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
