Sounds like dad was trying to hide all the bad stuff his child has done . People should know better by now , someone always digs up the dirt on you . Wonder why the dad would try to cover this up and not mention one word. Granted he served us all in the military but does the end justify the means ? THANK YOU for your service ,BUT shame on him for his acts in the end.

I felt there was more to this story and odd when first published. A 23 year old doesn't normally just up and die of what was listed. Odd cuz at first I thought did he have swine flu? I can't blame dad for trying to hide information. So sad to read this. My prayers go out to the family.

True true,But depending how long he was over seas, could have had a bad impact
on him mentally.i have 2 brothers both have served 6 year apiece in iraq.
One is fine 100%, my other brother just can't handly what he's done over there to people..You take a completely normal kid never does or did any thing wrong send him over there,They come back with a lot of problems, some can take it some can't..and try and get the GOV to help him out HAH ya right it's sad what they wont do for their own.
So i'm woundering if some thing was eating at this poor kid and just didn't no who/how to get help mentally.either way to young to pass away...

Perhaps at the time of the interview the family was not at liberty to discuss the details.

My heart goes out to the Briggs family. This is so much for them to cope with. I do feel, however, they shouldn't have presented Friday's article in the P O at all. The true news of his cause of death came out before the Saturday P O article. It would have been difficult enough for a father to have been interviewed under the circumstances in the way the article was presented with the death just happening Wednesday afternoon and the article in Friday morning's paper. Now the true, extra circumstances involving his death come out in the news the day after that article. I can not imagine how a father could go through an interview with a reporter that soon and actually under the true circumstances, and why???? It is beyond my understanding. It certainly can't be to change the story of what happened to Casey. They have nothing to be ashamed of. They did not have to run that story for that reason. Whatever went on that last week, perhaps only Casey and God knows. The Briggs family know they had a wonderful son and brother. They have their faith. They know they will see him again. I lift them all up in prayers that the Lord will sustain them through this very, very difficult time. Casey is free, and at peace. His family will need any one of you out there to keep them on your prayer list to help sustain them through this journey of grief. I guess none of us know really know how we would deal with such a tragedy until it just thrown right in their lap.....

Leave it to PO to give all the details on a family
death who grieves just like anyone else. What I
still can't figure out is why PO was so generous
on the reporting of our local district attorney
Jack Nelson. I think double standards stink!!
I don't trust the PO at all. This paper has become
Franklin County Local "Enquire" sold at the local
grocery markets...Trash reporting P O ...

No mention of the huge mistake yesterday. No correction. No apology.

Disgraceful PO. There is certainly a national trend toward the decline of print news, but when you pull this kind of garbage, you have to take some responsibility for your own death.

Some papers die with dignity; some rush the process with self-inflicted wounds.

What a difference a day makes. Yesterday a hero and today comes the dirt. I imagine the folks at the Public Offender were just jumping up and down when they got this story. I'm surprised they didn't make this story one that we would have had to buy the paper to read
Boohd could be right- PTSD is alway a factor to be considered. Doesn't matter though, a family lost a son.

I agree with the comments about Jack. as well. Everyone knew what he was.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!! The PO is not worth the price of the paper is is printed on. It seems as if this article was printed with glee. How sad. Well this is just another Newspaper that will go down the tubes, hopefully sooner, rather than later, for lack of readership. Keep it up PO and you will join the ranks of other papers and media sources that are dying out.

So...lie? Just say "we cant talk about it right now."

Pretty tacky of the PO contacting this fellow...I think you may have been a bit too quick in your attempt to capitalize on their grief.

I still dont even get why there was a story in the first place?- He wasnt active duty and seems only loosely connected with the area.

The article/lie has caused increased awareness and scrutiny of this fellows decline.

Same here. The flu being in the media so much makes this story stand out a bit more, and raised a few questions.

But - The story seemed to dismiss any question about how such a young fellow could become "suddenly ill" and die.

Assault can refer simply to the threat of violence caused by an immediate show of force.
A person may be committing assault if that person attempts to cause serious bodily injury to another person; or, causes such injury purposely, knowingly, or recklessly in circumstances where the person has exhibited indifference to human life; or,
attempts or causes bodily injury to another person with a deadly weapon.
Furthermore, if a person shoots into the air, he or she has no control over where that bullet will land which amounts to reckless and dangerous behavior that is not condoned by the law.

Daily Horoscope for January 3

Gemini

You are in a dissatisfied mood, and are just spoiling for a fight today. However, be warned that this could backfire on you unpleasantly, especially if you take on superiors at work. At home, everyone is used to your behaviour and they generally make allowances for you, as they will today.
