2 days ago I used the self check out process at Stop and Shop. I needed the assistance of a manager as I purchased wine which requires an ID check. No problem - yet.
The man who allegedly came to assist started rummaging through my bags!!! I demanded he stop. he then went on to say random checks were to be expected. Oh? I saw no such posting, anticipated no such invasive rudeness. I told him I'd be happy to empty my bags right there and leave it for him to put back on the shelves. He reluctantly agreed to confirm my ID and let me pay. I only had one small bag of items. Tonight, a similar incident. This young, arrogant, sloppy looking clerk ( who was smoking at the front door when I began shopping) said a check was necessary and began going through my bag. I had maybe 6 items. I stopped her and said if she wanted anything from my bag she could ask me. She was terribly rude, made me pull items from my bag for price checks. Naturally, all items were okay. Then she went on to say they had to do it, it could happen at any time and it was to be sure people didn't steal. Excuse me - she was accusing me of stealing!!! I told her I wasn't shopping there anymore if random staff could rummage through my carefully packed bags. She cheerfully replied "OK, Have a nice day!" Idiot. Now, I understand loss prevention. If SNS were smart (what's that?) they would see the benefit/profit to manners. Approaching a customer with "Pardon me Maam, we need to conduct a random check of your items today. Would you kindly let me point to 4 items in your bag? If you will remove them for a quick price check, we'll be all set. Very much appreciate your cooperation with this as we perfect our new technology." How hard is it to prevent loss, retain sales, build customer confidence? Not very. Although one must actually think about it for about 2 mintues (that's all it took me) Apparently SNS senior execs don't understand the power of PLEASE and THANK YOU. I will go out of my way to shop at the Hannaford on the Hingham Norwell Line, possibly the Shaw's in Cohasset - any other grocer but SNS. Please join me and send complaints to sr. execs. |

i with you on this one. they are horrible, and who are they fooling with their sales. My husband works in the meat department as assistant manager and tells me they raise the price then the item goes on sale. anyone with a newspaper and a brain can compare prices and see thay SNSs sale suck

I have a different beef with them. Stop & Shop limits customer food product choices by removing national brands to add their own no name brand and they don't care if you complain. I sent them an e-mail explaining I couldn't find Hunt's ketchup in their store and their response was disinterest. |

My mom is 80 years old and she has been having a problem with cashing a check at the SNS in New Bedford. They told us to call an 800 # of the check monitoring company and when we did the service person who answered told us that SNS had to call the monitoring company's Merchant Services division. We went back to SNS and they could not understand why they had to do the work. My mom has never in her entire life had a problem with a check to be cashed. The manager actually walked right by us and ignored us. He delegated the problem off to an assistant. This is Sunday. We will wait until Tuesday at noon and if we have not been given a solution we will never shop at SNS again. They just don't know how to run a business in the interest of the customer.

I called , talked to Mike. I asked for the name of the cashier, the assault of the cashier grabbing hold of my wrist, preventing me from moving my arm, then as he had a hard hold of my wrist; he then took my key from my hand. Mike told me, "I cannot give you a name," he then mentioned, "loss protection viewed the tape's, they saw nothing of the incidents." My friends and family cannot believe that a cashier form stop and shop would just grab hold of a customer like that; then take the keys out of the customers hand. On top of all this, my card is flagged. Every time I shop using the hand scanner they check all my bags and rescan it all. I have never stolen from a store in my life!! I feel like a thief each time I go shopping! The cashier grabs hold of my wrist because I was flagged? It’s unfair that the cams saw nothing, or is that a cover up. This has left such an impact on me, I have not been the same after that, since that; one of your companies cashier’s forced his hand onto my wrist and toke my key, right out of my hand that he griped so hard. This has never happen to me in all my life until May 20, 2009 around 9:45 pm. I was really mad at first; I was in shock, now I just cannot believe this happened to me. I am really afraid to shop at stop and shop, Stop and shop, you are injustice.

Stop & Shop dosn't have very bright management. The local store in Fall River has allowed dogs to enter the store with customers. People to park in the fire lane. Several State Fire Code violations at their Gas station. Planted shrubs and trees in areas of the parking lot that block the view of approaching cars. Limited the entrance and exits to too few parts of the parking lot. They hire the mentally disables to bag and pretty much damage groceries.
I have left entire carts of food at the register and walked out when I get offended by an employee. I let management know and walk out. |

Just FYI. Stop & Shop corrected the problem that my mom was having. I believe strongly that this website helped out during the situation.

if a cashier grabbed my wrist they wouldn't be breathing for much longer after that

The bottom line is that Stop & Shop is part of a huge conglomerate, owned by a foreign company (Royal Ahold) and its not a mom and pop store like some people think it is. There are tons of incompetent people that work there, but its the same for every company within the industry. The problem is the pay difference between the management and regular employees. When you have one employee making $10/hr or less after being there for years, and managers making a minimum of 55K/yr theres going to be a lot of disgruntled employees.
You also have to realize for every incompent worker that works there there's probably about 5 idiotic customers as well. |
