It seems to me when people observe a pool being filled for pratice and we all wonder for what reason , we get a reply that seems off the wall. Why didn't you have pratice on Will and Betty's house that would of been a very good pratice for the Curran fire dept instead of filling up a friends pool for them and making several runs doing it , peole who come out and attacks others when making a comment about the truth are knwoing they are in the wrong , so instead of filling up a pool and making several runs doing so , the people Assisting in filling the pool and the actual people filling it should of took the time and filled a drop tank and fiiled that and saved Will and Betty's house.

This is to the people who made the comments of people not knowing what were seeing . Don't know if you need glasses and if you are blind . There were so many people observing watching with all the others and wondering why the water was runnig out the lack of dowsing a fire , but as in return the Curran fire dept let the other depts work to put the house fire out while one Asst Chief from the Curran Fire dept decided to have a cigarette break , now come on youj weren't there to see it all , you were down some where else but not at the scene , belive me I asked and was told where all you were , not there at all , so before you make comments of others , you need to get your facts straight becasue there are always people seeing what you do here in town and it doesn't need a pool to fill to have pratice when you can have it on the real deal , makes you wonder if we even need a fire department here in Curran , at least the two unqualified firemen down at Will and Bettys house , and the most important one who allowed them to fill there pool up for pratice , you don't take several hours to fill a pool up for pratice .

WOW!! got a earfull from a bystander on saturday up there, My response was people need to join the dept, get trained and take over if they want to change the operation, But the news i got was all bad reguarding this fire, ugly untrained operation with lack of planning. and you can talk all you want about filling a pool for ""Training" ", that is flat out wrong. Real Training is done at orginized monthly training meetings. setting up the drop tank at the town hall on the edge of the parking lot and filling it would have been proper and learning to use the drop tank and run shuttles in full fire gear would have been realistice and defendable training.( I have had members do this) Filling a pool belonging to a firemember is not a defendable argument. and apparently the "good training" didnt apply on this fire??

I see we don't get anymore arguments from all the one's who were at wrong , you see there were people observing all this and was and will be able to testify the facts , so you can argue the facts of training of filling your pool , or the reaponse time of getting to a fire . There are several people who and can testify all this at the meeting if there will ever be one . The truth is out and it will come down on you like a hammer .

let me add something from PA 291, exerpt from 29.369
(4) The state fire marshal, with the approval of the council, shall develop and administer an examination, which shall include a practical demonstration, a written or oral test, or a combination thereof, to determine a person's competency in regard to the knowledge and skill requirements set forth in standards for fire fighter I and fire fighter II set forth in "standard for fire fighter professional qualifications", national fire protection association standard no. 1001,

(6) Within 24 months after a person's appointment date as a volunteer or paid on-call firefighter, a person must pass part 1 of the examination to be eligible for continued volunteer or paid on-call service as a firefighter.

A little something to digest.

We are sorry for all the letters that have been wrote on TOPIX. As far as our fire we are very thankful for all that was done. Our barn and garage was saved and it very likely would have been gone. We feel that the fire departments including Curran was done right. We are very disappointed with all the people that are using our fire to downgrade the "fire department". Sure hope that the people that are writing all the complaints don't have happen to them what was done to us (as far as a fire). We are disgusted with these people using our fire to say the things they are saying. If you have any complaints attend the Board meeting on the second Monday of each month. We want all of this stopped and please don't use our fire anymore to release all you bitter feelings you have had. We do want this stopped. We have lived here for 62 years and are satisfied with our community very much.

Yes, very freakish, because it hadn't really been raining. My mom lives on M 72 - 1 1/2 mile in from M 65. The lightening jolt rattled her house. Another friend, who lives just south of Crowell Rd. on M-65 said his house was really rattled by the jolt. Betty herself told me that Summer didn't stand a chance and how the lightening strike just went right into the circuit breaker and throughout the house.

Freakish indeed, I have started several responses to that area but can seem to post them, I would only ask is that what the State Fire Marshal listed the cause as?

Yes, it was a lightning strike, according to Betty Wildfong. This is what the investigators determined to be the cause of the fire and why it was so devastating.
