WOW!! got a earfull from a bystander on saturday up there, My response was people need to join the dept, get trained and take over if they want to change the operation, But the news i got was all bad reguarding this fire, ugly untrained operation with lack of planning. and you can talk all you want about filling a pool for ""Training" ", that is flat out wrong. Real Training is done at orginized monthly training meetings. setting up the drop tank at the town hall on the edge of the parking lot and filling it would have been proper and learning to use the drop tank and run shuttles in full fire gear would have been realistice and defendable training.( I have had members do this) Filling a pool belonging to a firemember is not a defendable argument. and apparently the "good training" didnt apply on this fire??

let me add something from PA 291, exerpt from 29.369
(4) The state fire marshal, with the approval of the council, shall develop and administer an examination, which shall include a practical demonstration, a written or oral test, or a combination thereof, to determine a person's competency in regard to the knowledge and skill requirements set forth in standards for fire fighter I and fire fighter II set forth in "standard for fire fighter professional qualifications", national fire protection association standard no. 1001, (6) Within 24 months after a person's appointment date as a volunteer or paid on-call firefighter, a person must pass part 1 of the examination to be eligible for continued volunteer or paid on-call service as a firefighter. A little something to digest. |

Yes, very freakish, because it hadn't really been raining. My mom lives on M 72 - 1 1/2 mile in from M 65. The lightening jolt rattled her house. Another friend, who lives just south of Crowell Rd. on M-65 said his house was really rattled by the jolt. Betty herself told me that Summer didn't stand a chance and how the lightening strike just went right into the circuit breaker and throughout the house. |

Freakish indeed, I have started several responses to that area but can seem to post them, I would only ask is that what the State Fire Marshal listed the cause as?

Yes, it was a lightning strike, according to Betty Wildfong. This is what the investigators determined to be the cause of the fire and why it was so devastating. |
