Belleville police arrest four in high-speed chase

Police arrested four suspects early Monday morning after a high-speed pursuit that began about 2 a.m. when a white Pontiac Grand Am refused to pull over for an officer on South Belt West after failing to use a turn signal, police said.

Police were not releasing the names of the suspects Monday, pending charges.

The chase continued on eastbound Illinois 15 and ended on Green Mount Road near Golf Course Drive in Shiloh, Belleville Police Capt. Don R Sax said. It reached speeds of more than 87 mph. Officers from Shiloh, O'Fallon and Fairview Heights assisted. Read more

Um. So... for failing to use a turn signal, the police were willing to endanger innocent lives?

I think this should be investigated and reprimands delivered.

Obviously, they were trying to hide something. Why wouldn't you pull over unless you were guilty of something?

So what about the related crash that was part of this chase that ended with an inocent vehicle and a police car colliding near Lebanon Ave and Route 159? The police car hit another vehicle and put that vehicle into a house, knocking it off it's foundation. Has anything been said about that. No! Why are the police keeping all this so silent? What more do they have to hide beside a high speed chase in the early morning hours? Makes you wonder? It does me! It's time to own up and be responsible Belleville Police.

There are chances you have to sometimes take to keep the thugs off of the streets. I'm sure that the officer that was driving is concerned about innocent people that are involved in something like this. But, think about this.....If the cops don't do anything about little animals running loose on the streets, then, who's going to catch the criminals? What if it were your car that was stolen? What if it's your house that is robbed at gunpoint? Everyone wants to complain about the police department..But, what most fail to understand is that without them, our crime rates would be even higher than what they are.

the grand am was stolen and none of the individuals in the auto did any time in jail. the driver of the vehicle served a few weeks before being transferred to the psycho ward, then got out (not sure how that happened). from what i hear, he is driving a brand new car now. as for me, i went through three months of HELL trying to get my insurance company to pay for my car while still making car payments. no justice.

I feel for you. I'm sorry you had to go through all of that. Almost makes you not want to own anything nice anymore, doesn't it? You work hard, pay your bills, etc. and some punks got to ruin for you. Damn shame. By the way, change insurance companies. THey shouldn't have given you a hard time for something you had no control over.

Let's see, Police try to stop you so you run from them. The police chase the car, the car wrecks or causes an accident and the POLICE are the ones at fault.

I guess we no longer teach in Drivers Ed that you stop or pull over for emergency vehicles.

No turn signal is a reason for a traffic stop. If ya have done nothing wrong, the car isnt stolen, you have a valid drivers license, ya got no worries.

The car got the attention of the police officer. It looks to me like the cop was right.
