Harold's Chicken Shack Chicago tradition finds a home in Fairview Heights

My wife and I got this chicken a couple days ago after seeing the thread on here. To be honest, I would rather have Popeyes. The chicken and french fries taste like they were cooked in the same oil (and not a good one) not to mention the coleslaw, which came in a container actually smaller than a Dixie cup! The only plus is that it's cooked to order. Save your money and get something you like, KFC isn't using trans fatty oil any longer!

I had Harolds Chicken a week ago and it was the best Chicken I've had in my life.

They have best tasting livers and gizzards.

My wife and I ate the chicken on sunday for mother's day, and I swear it was the freshest tasting chiken I ever ate from a fast food restaurant. I am so glad we have a good chicken restaurant in Fairview Heights.

Where is it located?

My chicken came out with feathers still on it which lets me know it was not properly cleaned. Luckily I found this before leaving the restaurant. When I took it back I was told they don't refund money but they replaced my order. Didn't make any difference to me because at that point I was completely turned off by Harold's. I wouldn't eat at this place with a dog's mouth!

I order Harold over phone and they said it would be ready in twenty minutes. I arrived at Harold within 20 minutes and it was not ready. The manager said they do not cook your food until you come to Harold. I ask the manager what is piont of calling ahead, all manager could said that the food would be hot.

Yes Chitown, KFC has a long reputation for selling fake chickens??? And do you purchase chicken for Harold's?? How do you know where they get their chicken from?? I stand by my assertion that Harold's chicken is mediocre at best. If any of you misguided culinary geniuses would like to experience real fried chicken just go to the Knotty Pine Inn in Breese Illinois. End of story

yes i do know where they purchase it comes from moo and oink like most of the black owned restaraunts that is a fact and have i ever heard about fake chicken from harolds ....no and do knotty potty inn or whatever have chickens in the back of the establishment where you can go ring the neck and pluck them yourself? and my comment was just a comment you actuaully sound like you are the one trying to be a genius.end of that story.

Chitown, I'm not calling your chicken skills into question, but contrary to some stereotypes, us white folks do like some fried chicken is well! Like Dave Chapelle said "because it is tasty and delicious".

I'm not saying that Harlods is shit, but it did seem a little bland (even with hot sauce). And the side items were good, you just got a Dixie cup size serving.

I was raised on Knotty Pine chicken and still believe it is the best I've had, bar none! They marinate it and cook it to order just the same (and believe me they know their chicken).

If you truly love tasty fried chicken, you should definitely check out this place! Just be careful going there after dark, because it's almost in the sticks and there are some crazy white people out there.

Has anybody tried there livers & gizzards? Sounds good but if they aren't cooked correctly....

Do you know what type of oil they use? A mixture of vegetable and beef tallow. You
should try it again.

Feathers on the chicken? Please.

I was planning on giving it another shot before I completely wrote it off. Perhaps we got them on a bad day, but believe me Tank, I didn't like what I tasted that day. Maybe I'll see what's up with their fish, it didn't sound that bad.
