Full story: WHEC-TV Rochester, NY

I used to regret that Penfield didn't pick up the leaves - then I heard the expense (high as pointed out, but even more than what Brighton is claiming when initial startup costs are considered)- it is really quite annoying as one drives through Brighton to see the piles of leaves everywhere raked up to and often into the roads, then only to be blown around whenever a car drives by or a wind picks up - I have lots of leaves, but I'll mulch and bag them - no biggie!

Interesting statement from Mr. Weidemer, especially considering this town does not provide police or leaf pick-up. Every town I've ever resided in has and I cannot express my disappointment when I discovered Penfield's lack of services, even though my taxes were the same. And oh, by the way, if you live in the town of Penfield but have a webster zip code you are not eligible to partake in the "recreation dollars". Lucky for my family Webster town welcomes us with open arms, even though we do not pay "their" taxes!

You mean we are not supposed to rake them INTO the road like most of my neighbors in Chili do?

Maybe City residents can rake all that litter, trash, as well as leaves to the curb for clean//pick up.
Aren't they embarrased by the unsightliness?
It probably doesnt matter once winter comes and the snow covers it up. Then they only have to wait for spring and the people who volunteer for Operation Cleanup will clean it for them.
The lack of shame for not maintaining a yard regardless if you own or rent is amazing.

I live in Gates. We rake our leaves to the road and a vacuum truck picks them up. I don't consider it "unsightly", that's how we do it here. What is the problem ??

why cant we still burn them, doesnt make much sense to me

im sure there are reasons related to global warming though

why is it so important to pick up leaves anyways

the leaves have been falling for millions of years before we ever got here to pick them up, things were fine then, why do we have to pick them up now?

regarding leaf pickup sucks. nowhere to put them. unless of course, you just let them all fall and hope for a good windstorm to blow them all over.

they don't even pick then up from the strom gutters in the road. then they wonder why the sewers plug during snow and rain storms..i wonder?

Big taxes, no services. Maybe Lafountain can get it right.

Mr. Levato,

I think you missed a VERY important point in your leaf collection story. The fact that Penfield requires leaves be bagged is VERY BAD for the environment. It should have been said that all the bags go into a land fill.

I live in Greece. This is one area they have right. We can drop off our leaves at several different parks. It's mulched, and in the spring we call the town, and they will deliver a load of mulch or compost at $0 cost. We use trash bins to transport the leaves to the park. No bag expense, negative impact on the environment except for the short trip to the park.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Aries

Financial muddles are more than likely today so be careful if you're going shopping. You might be accidentally short-changed or there could be a misunderstanding about how much something costs. This isn't a good day to lend friends anything valuable in case they don't return it or they damage it in some way. Better safe than sorry.
