I'm from out of state and have just fallen in love with Foley. So much I've sold my house have been looking at homes in Foley. Thought I'd look around on Topix to see what kinds of things are going on. Now I'm reconsidering my move.. Rapes, two murders, the hood, corrupt officials? Is this really what happens in Foley? I'm not saying every town is not without its problems but I'm moving to get away from these types of problems. Is Foley a safe place to raise a family or has it been "taken over"? Any input would be appreciated as this is probably one of the biggest decisions I've made.

Don't do it! You have only seen the drugs, violence and crime that the city officials want you to see. Believe me there is a "WHOLE" lot more that goes on everyday that the media doesn't hear about and the city doesn't let people know. Ever wonder why Foley has the nickname "Little Prichard"? Drugs are everywhere in the city and Foley has been the most violent city in Baldwin County for years and I believe it will be for years to come.

The schools are much smaller, although growing, and yes, there are problems in the town with several things, but if you are looking to "get out of the city" this is not too bad a place. All towns have their problems, but if you choose your location well, I think you will be happy, and it's close enough to the beach, but not too close. Insurance rates are high depending on where you locate. The biggest problem with the locals is that they treat you like like outsiders. Soon there will be more of us than them. I've always felt safe here with my family and I moved from just outside of Nashville, so the size and problems are not the same at all.

Thank you both for your input. This is a huge decision and I realize that every town has its problems. My son will be in High School and I do worry about whether or not he'll be accepted or treated as an "outsider". I may do some more homework before I make my decision. I couldn't help but notice how cheap property is there now. I live about 50 miles from Memphis so I'm familiar with big city crime but I'd hoped to move away from all that. I guess living in Foley is a lot different from vacationing there.

I've lived here for almost 5 years and don't even know what these nea-sayers are talking about. We have a good police department and very little crime compared to almost any other place in the Country that you might consider except the wilderness. Come on down and spend a week in a motel and drive around and get the feel of Foley, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach--they are really one combined area. If you don't feel comfortable, then start looking elsewhere and questioning the people there about what they don't like about their towns. I'm sure you will not receive a positive assessment from everyone for everyplace that you inquire.

Daily Horoscope for December 11

Leo

If you look closely, you'll see a black cloud hovering over a loved one's head. They'll find the smallest excuse for losing their temper or throwing a tantrum, so tiptoe around them or try to jolly them out of their filthy mood. If the situation continues you may decide that it would be better to get the inevitable argument out of the way than to pussyfoot around them any longer.
