Why should the Fairfax County taxpayers be saddled for the gold plated school system that does not teach, only indoctrinates? The students would be better taught in a one room school house rather than the mini-mansions they spend the day at getting their breakfast and lunch at taxpayer's expense.

Consider the following:

According to the ACT college admissions test, only 33 percent of Fairfax County Public Schools seniors are ready for college. See excerpts from the ACT college admissions test 2007 profile (pdf file) for Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS).

This report was obtained from FCPS. However, FCPS does not post it on the school website and does not mention it in its annual budget statement about student achievement.

According to the ACT profile, of the 2,144 FCPS seniors taking the ACT in 2007:
# 80 percent were prepared for college English composition
# 64 percent were prepared for college social science
# 59 percent were prepared for college algebra
# 39 percent were prepared for college biology.

Overall, 33 percent of FCPS seniors were prepared for college-level study in all four categories.

Statewide and nationwide, 23 percent of Virginia and United States high school seniors were prepared for college-level work in all four categories.

The better-known SAT college admissions test does not identify benchmark scores indicating college readiness.

I say get rid of those dead weight school board members and supervisors........they better not cut any teaching positions. I think it is about time to start slimming things out starting from the TOP. Why the hell are they paying these supervisors a six figure income and the teachers not much more then povety level...Thats BULLSH##

Did it mention what percentage of Fairfax County Students took the ACT test? I know it is not widley recommended like the SATs are. Considering it is an entirely different test than the SATs, only certain students who struggled with the SATs may have been encouraged to take it, thus skewing the results.

Where did you go to school? I hope you didn't learn spelling in Fairfax. Ths shortfall is based on overinflated property tax scream going bust not an influx of any indiviuals.

As for the person who complained about children being fed at taxpayers expense. Some of those children go hungry on the weekends and live for those meals.

The reason for budget short fall is b/c of the ILLEGAL HISPANIC COCKRAOCHS who FLED from PWC came to FFX Co. WE need to enforce ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTION LAW ACROSS THE WHOLE STATE. To kick out these ILLEGAL COCKROACHS. McCain wants to do FREE TRADE with Mexico who is a MAJOR BACKER of ILLEGAL HISPANIC COCKROACHS. If I ever had a chance to talk to the Cockroach Mexico Gov face to face I would SPIT on his face. Dumb WETBACK COCKROACH.

Exactly, we here in PWC saved over $6million in our school budget from not having to teach those anchor babies. Maybe Fairfax county should consider the same policy as their costs have gone up largely due to the successful PWC Policy on Illegals.

Damn shame.....they need to offset the budget deficit by cutting salaries...why should the kids suffer? There is an elementary school in Fairfax that my child attends where I am a newly elected PTA board memeber. We had a summer session meeting becuase the last idiots on the PTA board screwed up and now the IRS is after them. They want to cut all of the activities for the kids next year so they can pay the IRS. I say make the board memebers foot the bill since it was their mistake and QUIT MAKING OUR FUTURE LEADERS SUFFER! I am so sick of the crap going on in Fairfax where I was born and raised. As if illegal immigration does not have anything to do with this either....yea right! It plays a major part since all of the resources needed to accomotdate them - headphones to translate to the parents at meetings/orientation/functions , paid translators, ESL courses.....all of these things cost money. Not to mention the teachers ask us parents to contribute extra money for the "underprivilaged" in the class...damn it...I am poor too! I am so over it!

Then the parents of these moocheing children should get off of the county welfare rolls and get a job to feed their own kids or go back to their own country with the kids and either work or become a burden on their own governments. And our government should penalize those gogverments that dump their non-productive poor on us.

So what you are saying is that it's o.k. to be a dumb-arse but it's even better to be a hungry dumb-arse!?

Give the teachers a huge raise, the bosses an even bigger raise, and give the janitors even bigger raises and watch the schools improve. Well at least the floors will be clean. The teachers will be able to fly to the Carribean for spring break. The bosses can brag about teachers and janitors enjoying the best incomes of school employees everywhere except in the madrasses of Fairfax County.

That Corey Stewart is a true American hero and really admire his full on successful efforts against illegal immigration. Fairfax Va. will have to suffer greatly before anything is done obviously.

Good point. I'm from Michigan and most universities there don't even require prospective students to take the SAT. So I didn't. However they do require students to take the ACT. In some states, this is very different and you have to consider the number of students that actually take these tests.

What ever happened to all that money from lottery games that the states are suppose to get a cut of for education. It seems to me that money is not getting there and we should be looking into that instead of looking for ways to get rid of teachers. These states take in a HELL of alot of MONEY on these games, were is IT !!!!! Somebody needs to expalin to me how you can be short 350 millions dollars in one year...please someone tell me how. I think we need to do some AUDITS around here and find out who has the FAT pockets in Fairfax county. There are 3 things in a budget that should NEVER be cut..Police, Fire/rescue and SCHOOLS, everything else you can cut from without impacting services that much, but these 3 DO NOT TOUCH !!! How about getting RID of some of those HIGH paying local government jobs, we certainly don't need them !
