Should Tarkio go to 8-man football

I'd just like to say that after a dismall 5 years with only 2 wins it is time for the Indians to let go of that 1971 11 man state championship and play 8-man like the other schools their size. I think that it does nothing for the kids or the community to live on some false dream that we have enough kids to compete with bigger schools.

Wow tarkio is still playing 11 man football. I haven't been around for 15 years that amazes me. South Holt went to 8 man foot ball in 1988. Tarkio's small town is no bigger than craig go 8 man already!

I think that the problem with Tarkio football is the parents. They cant face the fact that their kids arent good athletes and run the coaches out after one year. They've been through 4 coaches in 4 years.They do have some tough kids in the school but none of them want to play because they know that they don't have the right last name.Some "infuencial" parents would rather have their kids play and lose than let other kids play.Its too bad because the year they have a good coach and they will probably run him off too.

I think that it would be great if Tarkio would play 8 man football.... That way they wouldn't have to travel so far to play football..... Rock Port needs to go 8 man as well...

Look, Tarkio plays 275 conf oponents in track, basketball and junior high football. Somehow this community feels that 8man football is less a sport than 11 man. This is a common misconception held by a lot of people that knows very little about 8man football. You still have to block, tackle, pass and run the ball! The field dementions compensate for the reduction in players. 8 man is a faster more exciting, highscoring game. The team with the most talent,dicipline and desire still wins!s so whats your problem Tarkio? afraid you can't compete at the 8man level and would rather make excuses at the 11 man level. Times change.

Two ex school members who are parents are to blame for Tarkio going from winners to losers. The coaches in TArkio need to wake up and figure out who their bosses are now cuz these parents/ex board members are STILL calling the shots. Go to a ballgame, football or basketball, and you'l see all this in action.

You just dont understand that we can play 11 man and we will rise up again its just you stupid pricks cant seem to understand

Tarkio needs to play 32 man football so they can compete with 8 men on the other team. Tarkio football is at its worst, they are in the wrong division!!!!

They will win exactly 0 games next year. This year was the worst that I have ever seen. You cant blame the coaches.....the kids are wimps.

Dude I live in Tarkio and I played it for 2 years so lay off! If you think your opinion matters that much, then talk to the High School football team about it and see what happens to you!

First of all I like to say that it's completely wrong to call these kids names. Why you blaming it all on the kids. They don't make the decision to stay in 11 man now do they? As to the coach who asked if Tarkio was afraid to play 8 man. Why would they be? I don't hear the kids making excuses at the games. I'd love to see these kids win more games, but they aren't bashing everyone else when they don't, like most of you are doing to them at the moment. Why don't you go up to the school and tell them what your problem is with Tarkio still playing 11 man and leave the kids alone. At least they are trying. Like I said, it's not their fault they play what they play. I wouldn't give up on this team yet. That's the problem right there. If they don't win, then people don't support them. Regardless of the outcome they still should be supported. I guarantee if they won all time the bleachers would be packed. I believe that says enough right there.

Tarkio can't compete in the 275 conference, they are just too small of a school. They need to go 8 man and actually enjoy playing. The games would then be against West Nodaway, Fairfax, ETC.. NOT Gallatin and other schools 100 miles away. It's not the kid's fault, it's the school board who can get it done.. It should have been done 10 years ago, there is NO shame in 8 man but there is shame in losing all but 2 games in 5 years. GET OVER IT AND MOVE ON!

Tarkio doesnt play in the 275 conference.....they play in the Grand River Conference. The bigger schools in the GRC like Princeton and South Harrison arent even on the schedule any more. Tarkio will play an 8 man team this year when they tackle ST Joe Christian who will field an 11 man team just for one game. They may be the toughest team that Tarkio plays all year.People will then realize that 8 man is just as tough as 11 man.Its not about how many kids you put on the field or how big the school is its about having the talent and desire to win.
They would have the same record in 8 man as they do in 11 man. Tarkio has enough kids out to play either and regardless if they win or lose Ill still attend every game just as if it were the super bowl. I dont look for them to win a game this year but if they do Ill be happy.Its just football....just a game.Even if they lose its better that sitting on the couch playing Xbox all day
After this year the school board will have another chance to switch to 8 man.I doubt they will though because Rockport is still 11 man butI think that the only team that Rockport will beat will be Tarkio or vica versa so maybe they will both get the idea and quit hanging on to 1971.

After thinking about it I've decided to make a prediction......

Tarkio will win against Rockport this year with a score of 21-7

Rockport could barely win a game last year and now that they have graduated most of thier good player it should be a good game.

Tarkio needs to play 8-man.... they can NOT compete in the 275 but there are idiots who apparently think they can...
