So if the police officer's car was showing an invalid safety check sticker how could the towing folks possibly have known that the valid one had been stolen?? I am seriously sick and tired of cops getting preferential treatment with respect to their cars. I've lost count of how many recon violations I've noticed on police vehicles WHILE ON DUTY. Drastic lowering and huge rims are ridiculously easy to pick out as are the blue light on the top, person in uniform behind the wheel and the lack of a recon sticker on the rear bumper.*sigh* there are days...

"Regarding the HPD officer's car not being towed, Yu said the car had a valid safety check, but the current safety decal had been stolen, leaving the expired decal showing." This has got to be a load of BS. 1. It would have to be a really stupid thief to steal a safety decal off a cop's car. 2. Today the safety decals are made materials that tear easily and you cannot remove a single decal layered on top of another without destroying the decal. 3. Do the cops check every car to see if their decals have been stolen or expired or was this cop car given special consideration?

The far more likely explaination is the simplest. It was a cop's car, and therefore was not towed. Giving an excuse like that is an insult to the public's intelligence.

Dano, I agree with you 1000%. These clowns for police officers get away with what ever they want. The law is no reconstructed vehicle to be used for police work or get any subsidies. There cars are more important then the people they service.
I have made numerious complaints about cars blocking the stop signs on Hoono and Hoomailani St, but the excuse is the police are too busy to check on traffic hazards. Yet you will always find 6 to 8 at their Waimulu sub station. Police don't give each other tickets that goes against the blue.

Hawaii has one of the lowest violent crime rates (ranked 43rd as of 2006 stats) in the nation.

Strangely, though, the 2004 stats for combined violent and property crime rates appear to show Hawaii as being the 6th worst in the nation.

So, if the current safety sticker had been stolen, how would the tow contractor know that? The only sticker visible is EXPIRED, so the vehicle should have been towed...but, of course, that's not gonna happen.

How much do you want to bet those "numerous complaints" came from ONE person -- and THEIR vehicle was the one left alone??

This is why the public has no faith in HPD.

Not to mention the skyrocketing thefts of safety inspection stickers. They're even stealing them off cars owned by police officers.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Pisces

Someone is in a very boisterous mood today, and you may want to make yourself scarce after a short spell in their company. Their idea of a joke may be your idea of extreme rudeness, or they could take pleasure in being argumentative just for the sake of it. Don't let this person wind you up or you'll go off pop through sheer tension.
