I agree that we need to get our teachers back in the classroom, but all this talk has been about restoring funding. What should be done is revise that contract HSTA pushed through and the idiot BOE and Gov agreed to so that teachers just take a 8 percent cut with no furlough. They got big raises in 2005 and after. They can take a cut for 2 years if they care about the children like they claim they do. It's the union leaders who don't care about the kids and are just trying to push agendas that keep them in their powerful, well paid, furlough proof jobs.

you are dead wrong my friend --- the problem isn't cause by our regular teachers getting to much pay

the problem lies with decades of both union control over government and lack of planning in government

how much sense does it make to have no plan to down-size over time --- and just be left with drastic across the board cuts when times are bad?

theoritically, the people deserve better government --- practically, the people have not done enough to go out and get it

Rep. C. Say sure does a lot of talking
but does not take any action. He said
from the beginning that unnessary agencies and dept. we do not need should be cut to save money, but he has no balls to fight for what he says is right. Example, Get rid of Ted Liu and his tourism dept., why do we need
two tourism Depts. Lingle is helping her croony friends at the cost of the people. She's good at blaming other's for her stupidity and arrogance.

Raid the Hurricane Fund.

Raid the Rail Fund.

Do whatever it takes.

Will Espero, Dela Au Bellati: Round up the troops.(Sakamoto, get a back-bone. Either you join up, or get the hell out of the way.)

Governor Lingle: This is a HUGE mistake.

All YOU folks allowing this to happen, are short-changing the future of Hawaii.

Penny wise and Pound foolish.

PLEASE EVERYBODY, CALL LINGLE'S OFFICE EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY TO GET HER TO COME TO HER SENSES AND PUT AN END TO THIS THOUGHTLESS NOTION.

If not, then I hope and pray the Eric Seitz, Varady and Dorsey will beat the State and Bennett mercilessly come November 5 and 6, and that God will guide Judge Ezra to come to the right decision to halt this most egregious cheating of the future of Hawaii.

Calvin Say is right for a change. The legislature needs to look at the whole money picture, not just funding for schools. Hopefully those budget discussions will include a downsizing of government as pointed out by "huh". The scary part of downsizing is that our leaders always pick the most painful route in an attempt to create a public outcry for higher taxes, just as they have done with the furlough situation.

We have officially become the joke of the nation. All over the national news last night were stories about our already poorly educated kids now having three day weekends. Japanese children average about 240 school days per year; Hawaii kids are now down to 163. Unbelievable it has come to this. Maybe we should bring back all the pineapple and cane fields because we seem to be producing a steady supply of workers for those type of jobs.

Um, the only thing a Plantation Democrat will see when the "look at the whole money picture" is MORE TAXES!

That's all they are capable of.

I hope they do it.

I hope they raid the Hurricane fund so that WHEN a hurricane hits you're all screwed.

I hope they raise taxes even more so that they drive more businesses under.

I hope they build a billion dollar boondoggle called Rail which will actually make traffic WORSE not BETTER.

I will just flip on the Schadenfreude and get some popcorn and laugh.

Suckckkkkakaahhhhhzzzz.

What will the special session cost? Will the proposed raid on the hurricane fund funnel extra money to the legislators as well as needed funds to the schools? Not such a good idea in that case.

Remember, it is no longer a matter of funding only for the teachers. Money would need to be found for the HGEA workers who are also part of the furlough Fridays.

I Hope the State of California severs along the San Adreas fault, and plops into raging surf of the deep blue Pacific Ocean, and Hope that along with it, you and your sovereignty movement.

Keep Hope Alive!!!

P.S. I know California got a whole bunch of "Queens," but have you found at least ONE king yet in your effort to restore of the "Kingdom of Hawaii?"

hahahahahaha.

Too bad 100 million or so is saved for the steel rail system. It could have helped everyone more if the legislators pass a bill next session to use all of it for education.

If you think these budget shortages are bad now, imagine what it will be like if federal funding isn't awarded. And Mufi is governor, who will prioritize his steel rail over education and public services.

Remember, we are PAYING for the first 2 segments that have been put up for bid.

you are mistaken --- rail money comes from the GET

the rail GET portion can be suspended immediately by the legislature

the equivalent amount can pay for education

problem solved

Say,
You got no backbone and should retire and let someone with a brain and guts take your place. Why wait, address this problem now With Senator
Hanabullshit. Several years back she introduced a bill which passed, taking away the rights of the unions to take care of EUTF plan and gave it to the State. Now the public workers are suffeing with higher premiums, due to her stupidity! Her political ambition is all that matters to her and she does not care about the people of Hawaii, Lingle. Stop flapping your mouth and take action, instead of letting other Senators do your job!

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Capricorn

You'll have a fabulous time if you're longing to see what's on offer in the sales, especially if you want to buy yourself some new clothes or cosmetics. However, you won't pay much attention to how much you're spending, and may even deliberately avoid thinking about it. Do yourself a favor and don't go overboard if you can't afford it.
