Do we need them ? how many are there ? What kind of people are living in them ? There one on Chelsea St is allways kept up, I don't know what the inside look"s like,,,,

At one of the CC meetings (? two meetings ago)... there were quite a few requests for boarding/rooming houses and ALL were quickly approved with no discussion. This is what will run Everett down even more than it is. Of course there are big $$$$ to be made from this business so it will continue...

Rooming houses serve a purpose but the type that now exist are treated as mini-apartments with cooking and god knows what else going on in some of them.

List of things that ruin a city: Rooming houses; Check cashing/money transfer stalls; Auto body/Used car lots; Absentee landlords; City workers(admin/police/fire/teac her) who don't want to live in city; Tattoo stores; Personal injury lawyers and Chiropractors. Or is this a list of things that just show that the city is already ruined? Chicken or the Egg?

I have heard and read quite a lot about absenetee landlords. I am an absentee landlord. I own and rent a 2 family in Everett and own and occuppy another 2 family in Everett. The first house was left to me by my deceased parents. I go there twice a week and pick up the lot. I shovel, my grass is the best on the street and I paint every 5 years. Why should I be penalized. My houses are better kept and look better than any other houses.

If you do everything you say, then you are not an absentee landlord. You are just a landlord. Absentee landlords are people who own property and collect rent on it, but couldn't find it with a map. They don't do basic repairs, let alone regular maintenance.

Also, they generally don't live in the city/town where they own. They use the rent money to live in a more affluent neighborhood. This criteria alone is not absentee -- they must mainly be neglectful.

However, since you live in one of the properties in Everett, and you maintain all of your properties, you are absolutely NOT an absentee landlord.

I actually think you should be rewarded for living where you own and being committed to the city's improvement, which I said in my post on another thread.

I wouldn't consider you an absentee landlord because you do live in Everett and can't live in 2 places at once. The City of Everett went in the toilet as soon as Section 8 came to town. This enabled slumlords to rent out their apartments at a premium and move out. Apartments renting for $400 12 years ago were getting rent upward of $1200 because Uncle Sam doesn't mind spending taxpayer money.
