Auxiliary Police at one point were supposed to handle the crossing guard thing for the city because from what I understand they have been trained to direct traffic by the city of randolph....

I don't know how true this is either, but I also heard that this woman had gone to a host of city officials, police, and even told her own family that the city needed to put a stop light there at that corner, but was ignored numerous times. It is just unfortunate tht things like this happen in our city.

You can be sure however that her family will sue the city and MWRA for sure!

I firmly believe when it comes to the main streets in this city the police dept need to step up and put a cop at those crosswalks. There needs to be a cop on elm street for the high school, ferry for both the keverian and lafayette and main street for the maddy. I have kids in three of these schools and i can not believe how people just go around the crossing guards with children in the cross walk. It is disgusting how people ignore the crossing guards. I hope people do realize these crossing guards work for the police dept and do take your plate numbers down and turn you.

Who is responsible for training the crossing guards? I'm asking because I've seen a couple of them who basically just jump into traffic to stop it to allow kids to cross. I'm surprised they haven't been hit. The other thing I noticed is a lot of them look like they could be senior citizens. Nothing against the elderly but their reaction time and/or vision may not be as quick/good as it used to be. I'm also surprised that no one has been hit trying to cross from EHS over to the pool/rink and vice-versa. Drivers come so fast around that corner. I know that high schoolers should know how to cross the street but when they have their Ipods on, they just don't pay attention.

The crossing guard who was struck and killed was a 71 year old woman. May she rest in peace.

From what I was told by a few people in the city, they are paid $25 a day and recieve almost no training on how to interact with traffic passing through.

I guess like anything else they are at the mercy of motorists who decide whether or not to stop....
