There have been a lot of complaints that this mouthwash turns stains teeth brown and alters your sense of taste.

The Law Offices of Bell & Brigham is investigating claims for a possible class action lawsuit.

I have been using Crest Pro Health Mouthwash for 5 weeks. I have had comments from my family that my teeth are brown/yellow. Using this wash has been the only change in my dental hygiene. I brush & floss daily. I have scheduled a visit to my dentist. Is there any information you can provide that my dentist may use to reverse the effects?

Thank you,
Tim Gallagher

Strange. I've been using Pro Health Mouthwash every day for almost 6 months and I have NONE of the side effects that have been reported.

I am a licensed dentist who also works for Crest. I would like to add to the conversation about Crest Pro-Health Rinse.

Crest Pro-Health Rinse kills 99% of the germs that cause plaque, gingivitis and bad breath in a unique alcohol-free formula. Unlike alcohol-containing mouthwashes, Crest Pro-Health Rinse doesn’t burn, making it easier to use for the recommended 30 seconds twice daily. Alcohol – at high concentrations – has been reported to contribute to dry mouth, which can actually worsen bad breath and the growth of more germs.

Like all mouthwashes that effectively fight plaque and gingivitis, Crest Pro-Health Rinse can contribute to temporary, surface-level brown tooth discoloration, which is reported by a small percentage of individuals. Tooth discoloration could actually be one indication, in some people, that the product is working. After the rinse kills germs in your mouth, the dead germs can collect on the tooth surface and create the appearance of a brown stain. Discoloration could be exaggerated by things such as tartar on teeth, consumption of colored beverages like coffee, tea and/or red wine, or tobacco use.

Brown tooth discoloration from use of mouthwashes that effectively fight plaque and gingivitis is not harmful. It is reversible – and largely preventable – through options like brushing with a power toothbrush and tartar-control/whitening toothpaste, flossing, and visiting the dentist regularly.

Being a licensed dentist is one thing, but working for Crest!! Why would you NOT defend the product. Could you fear for your job. I have used the Crest ProHealth toothpaste for a long time, and have always had a "funny, unclean" after taste in my mouth, to the point of eating a mint to give fresh breath taste. My friend has been using the mouthwash and her teeth have turned brown. Now we know why. Her situation and mine, combined, makes me believe it is the mouthwash and toothpaste.

I started using ProHealth last July on the advice of my dentist to improve gum health. After struggling to reduce the brown-staining on my teeth,I gave up my morning cup of coffee which improved a little, but not entirely. In January I called P&G to enquire about other products they had to supplement the twice daily ProHealth regimen. After being on hold for several minutes, the representative told me they would send out coupons for whitening products. None ever showed up. This morning I saw the feature on the TODAY show, and am now very upset at P&G lack of responsibility.

I now also have brown spots around my teeth from using the crest mouth wash. My question is what do I need to have my dentist do to correct it and how much is it going to cost me out of my pocket and is my insurance going to cover this?9185

After about 4 days of using this product I woke up with an infection in my saliva glands. I had to go to the emergency room and be on powerful antibiotics that made me sick to my stomach for 2 weeks. I had never had a problem like this before. It is possible it was just a coincidence, but I have seen other people reporting the same type of infection after using the product.

First of all, how biased can you get? The dentist who WORKS FOR CREST is defending the product. My mother who whitens her teeth, uses a sonic toothbrush and doesn't smoke, etc showed me her teeth today and they were very brown on the bottom by the gums and in between. She had no clue what was causing this sudden change (this is something her dentist recommended!) I remembered my sister telling me about this issue, and sure enough mom was using Pro Health mouthwash.
I went to their site and was so angered by the crap they try to explain this problem away- only .01% apparently affected (wrong), and admitting that it can discolor yet not labeling it for consumers. So they are presuming that THEY can decide that the health benefit of their product outweighs any cosmetic issues. Anyway, guess what? They will sell you whiteners to fix the problem. Gee, thanks. I will make sure to spread the word and will never use their products again.
Oh, and Leslie the Crest dentist, how would you like it if you bought conditioner for your hair, which made it start falling out, and you were told it may be your lifestyle, and it means the product is working and your hair is actually healthier now. Oh, and it can grow back. Would that make you feel like ever trusting that company again for not warning you?

My wife went to her Dentist 2 weeks ago with a problem ,the lack of taste to certain foods and drinks since using Crest. She was told to stop using it and that probably she will regain them. She is now at her Drs. because she is so concerned that it is still persisting. I will let everyone know what his thoughts are and his recomendations. Apparently this is a common problem and I wonder why they haven't done anything to correct it or why there hasn't been a lawsuit.

I have been using Crest Pro Health Night for about 3 months. Just recently, my wife and son keeping asking me why my teeth are so yellow especailly in between. This is really frustrating. I probably will have to pay a couple hundred dollars to have the dentist whiten my teeth. Is there a lawsuit on the way?

I'm so glad I saw this blog. I started using Crest Pro Health about a week ago. This past two days, I noticed a sudden change in my ability to taste food and, yes, the browning of my teeth. At first, I associated the change in my taste from my tonsillectomy two weeks ago. But, the sudden and very obvious browning of my teeth? I'm going to keep an eye for any possible class action ligation against Crest.

I too have experienced loss of taste after using Crest Pro-Health mouthwash. I started using it in March, noticed my sense of taste disappearing and found out that other people were experiencing the same problems. I discontinued use, but my taste has not returned. How long do I have to wait? I want to join a class action suit, but don't know how. I'd appreciate any advise.

I also was using the mouthwash, and noticed my sense of taste is terrible...everything I eat has the same taste. I quit using it in May when I saw the Today Show story, but I still have not had any change in getting rid of that constant taste in my mouth....and when eating food. I too would like to sue them!

Hi!
I have been using crest pro-health night for only a month and I have been suffering from these conditions as well.
I have almost no sense of taste left. My teeth have turned very brown when they used to be very white. Each of my teeth have developed as grey lining with grey dots on them with an abrasive texture. My mom called the crest company this morning about these effects and they said that we needed to buy our own electric tooth brushes, but what they dont realize is that an electric tooth brush can cost up to 125 dollars, and we dont have they extra expense money to do so when the situation was compleatly unavoidable. They also told us to stop drinking coffee and tea. I run on coffee! What I am wondering is are any of you in on a class-action law suit? If so, my mother and I would like to become apart of it and support you in any way.

I'm so glad I saw this post, although I wish I would've thought to search the internet on this issue BEFORE using Crest mouthwash. I only used it 3 times (yesterday and the day before). But still I have noticed my sense of taste is terrible! I should've had the sense to stop using after the first time, since I noticed (and even commented to my husband) that after using it, my "breath" (which it claims to help) seemed worse than before I even brushed my teeth. And still the lack of sense of taste lingers and is very troubling. I will continue to follow this issue, as Crest certainly has some owning up to do.

I have used the PRO HEALTH Toothpaste and since have experienced globs of film coming off the inside of my lips and inside cheeks. My tongue burns when I eat, my lips feel tingley and raw inside and the are so dry now they stick together. Its been a week since I stopped using the toothpaste and my lips and tongue have not returned to normal. It is very uncomfortable and the corners of my lips are sore and my tongue feels numb. Any body else have these problems? let me know my e mail is Marlies777@aol.com.
