Once again, the tree trimmers are hacking, gorging, chopping and cutting the trees here in Arab. I realize the trees under power lines need trimming but this is outrageous. It can be done with attention to aesthetics and curb appeal. I thought enough complaints were submitted to AEC a few years ago to change this practice. Apparently not. Arab merchants have enough problems without being labeled the ugliest town in the south. This type of cutting just creates ugliness, looks trashy, and leaves a bad feeling.

Most people dont realize that the power lines are located in the right-of-ways which means by planting trees there you are essentially planting trees on someone elses property. I am all for the rmoval of any and all limbs near the power lines if you realize how much damage and trouble they cause when they fall. Do you remeber the ice storm of 95? Most of the power outages were due to tree limbs near the power lines falling onto the power lines. If the tree is pruned back so much that it is an eyesore I am all for cutting the entire tree down. But I am sure some people think that the rest of could or should live with our power being out so that we can have tree limbs hanging over the power lines.

My trees would not even have to be trimmed to pieces if they would have used common sense when they put up the power lines that go straight across my yard instead of being at the end of the road like they should be!

I'm also all for the limbs being trimmed away from the power lines, but there are sensible and pleasing methods to approach this instead of hacking and chopping away. And I don't think anyone wants to cause power outage with their tree limbs. Trees are the lungs of this planet and God put them here for a reason. If all the trees disappeared from the earth, there would not be enough oxygen manufactured for humans or animals to breath. They serve a purpose on this planet and their role is rarely acknowledged. I think they are magnificent and beautiful and life could not exist without them.

If people used common sense when planting trees aanywhere near the power line right-of-way this problem wouldn't exist. Trees come with a tag with the projected canopy and should be planted not to encroach on the right-of-way away from the outside of the crossarm when they mature. Otherwise, the Co-op or power company has to TRIM, TUNNEL, or Take 'em down. Your trees are NOT more important than keeping your neighbors in the dark! Peace!!!
