Second Chances--Amost everyone deserves them. But much depends upon what the original sin was...
...Does Osama bin Laden rate a 2nd chance? Did Timothy McVeigh? How about George Bush? Oh wait, he got one or two or more... ;-):-)
...In the case of George Knupp--Perhaps the specifics of his alleged crimes were less than horrendous. But they seem to have occurred from substantial basic personal flaws in his character and integrity. Not exactly a commendable trait in a law officer, especially a Top Cop like sheriff...

This one is a strech man.

Let's see Bin Laden, 3000 people dead at the Twin Tower and Knupp two misdemeanor for "misleading" the Grand Jury. Not even close dude!

Have you ever needed a second chance or have you never done anything wrong?

If you never screwed up then start casting those stones man, but I can't join you!!!!

Here is a quote from a previous article:

As part of his settlement, Knupp was allowed to give up his law-enforcement certification, which isn't a requirement for elected sheriffs. Though he apologized in a 2004 open letter to Lake residents, saying, "I should have never been anything less than fully accurate," Knupp also said that he "did not intend to again seek election as your Sheriff."

...Yeah, BlahDude--I made the distinction between horrendous crimes and George Knupp's lesser ones. The point was: What a Top Cop should be, vs Knupp's demonstrated lack of character and deficient integrity...
...All this blather about casting stones is nonsense. In every election (and other facets of RealLife), we are expected to make judgments about people and issues. And so we do--you too... ;-):-)

Bucky my boy it is not blather to point out that we (me too) screw up!

Top Cops, as you put it, are still just humans trying to figure it (life) all out! They are no different than you or me!

The point it is easy for you and me to sit here and type away. Which means nothing in the scheme of things, all I am stating is do we not give a person a second chance.

If you don't need or give second chances, so be it! I have been a street cop nearly all of my adult life, people do "stupid things", should they be not allowed to correct those "stupid things"?

I don't think Knupp is any different than me or you, as Jimmy Buffett say watch out for those "gravity storms", they bring you down to earth pretty damn quick!

Can a persons character not be reformed or corrected?

Sounds like to me you don't dig the Knupp and that is okay! I am not sure I am voting for him either!

The second chance is to be decided by the voters of Lake County not you or me!

If you knew me I don't ever shy away from making judgements. I make them nearly everyday, peoples freedom is a very serious judgement I make routinely.

So your point about making judgements just won't fly!!!

I hope someday you don't have to eat those words about second chances. Somehow I figure you to be the type that will scream for a second chance when or if the time might come for one!

...BlahBlah (love the name):
...Please reread the first graph of my post above--Second Chances...
...Then reread the final graph on your last post, wherein you make judgments about moi...;-):-)
...Somewhere in between, you appear to have misjudged and also misunderstood...
...As it happens, I have been on the road for a while, and am well acquainted with LEOs, stupid things which we all do, distinctions between small errors and large, the underlying nature of character and personality, and our proclivity for making judgments (routinely) about everything, each and every day...
...Obviously most young cops are still trying to figure out life, same as the rest of us at that age and stage. But when law officers reach the mid-and-upper ranks, they should have acquired some fairly hefty knowledge about life, and most of them do...
...A Top Cop deliberately making rookie mistakes is a flawed individual. The mistakes which George Knupp made were the same as crooks make. He has paid for them, and he might even be a better person for it now...
...But he has no business being a police officer again, and definitely not sheriff...Mostly, he has proven that he cannot be trusted. And, as always, integrity is the issue...
...Quaint idea, that--possibly becoming extinct across the broad spectrum of American Society...:-(

Bucky the name comes from all of us rattling on...You know Blah Blah Blah, which really mean very little!

If I misunderstood, then my bad, if you did not make it clear, then your bad!

You kill your own arguement with the term "deliberately" when talking about Knupp making a mistake! That he and God know, I don't know, nor do you! If you spend much time on the stand in court it is very easy to make mistakes. Hope it never happens to you, but it might!

I will agree if Knupp set out to LIE, serious issue! If not and he made a mistake then the second chance is in order!

That judgement must be made by someone smarter than me!

Making mistakes and lying are two totally different actions. Your statements are becoming very naive. You defend Knupp as if you are him. Hmmmm? I guess he made a "mistake" or lied when he said he would not seek to be Sheriff again and now.... he is seeking to be Sheriff.

BLAH: Yeah, I caught the wry meaning of BlahBlahBlah. It fits many of us who haunt BlabRooms--Not thee and me, of course...
...Sheriff Knupp's misdeeds in the vehicle case were deliberate, period. As a street cop, you should know that. And Knupp doing the vehicle deal was acting like a crook. Ergo...?

Your being alittle paranoid my friend!

I have been called alot of thing over the last twenty four years as a cop, but these two take the cake! No one ever called me naive and no one ever called me George Knupp!

Several things make us different.

He is alot heaver than me. He has more hair than me. He is a "management type", and I am a street officer! Finally he makes alot more money than me, but if you choose to think I am he in this blog then so be it!

But, you might want to "PUT DOWN THE PIPE" and back away my friend!

I am not defending anyone, only stated he made a mistake, not even sure I will vote for him yet.

So take that deep breath, it will all be okay!

Lets be factual here! Two misdemeanors mean a year in the county jail each. A person with a crystal clean record, will probably never see the inside of a county jail.

Besides whether you like it or not the sentence was justified, trust me I see it all the time. Usually you just pay a fine for non felony crimes. If you think I am not accurate come sit in a court room, they are open to the public.

The truth of the matter is Knupp got "hammered" in the scheme of things, believe it or not!

It would not surprise me if the residents of Lake County voted him back into office -- the cronies of the corrupt - need to have their hand in the till at all times, and if he's THEIR MAN... they'll find a way to get him back on board! Scarrryyy thought & a very good reason why one should think long and hard about living in Lake County where corruption reigns supreme! Take a look across the street at the DCF office, and you discover the OPA is the Mother-in-law to the son of the so called independent KCI services... one hand seems to was the other hand at all times in thattt County... with DCF PI's engaged to and married to local LSCO's .. who enter YOUR HOME and decide whether you are a child abuser.. or not... and when 2/3r'ds of the county kids are in foster care... with their parents hauled off to jail for spanking their kids? Scaryyyy... scarryyyy place... to live, raise your kids, and drive a car... not me! You can have him!

I don't know about the little voices in his head, but you are spot on about the size of his ego. I was an employee of Lake County Sheriff's Office for 17 years (the last 12 during the Knupp reign). He was just another in a line of "good ole boy" sheriffs. Yes he did a lot to modernize and upgrade the department and equipment, but unless you were kissing his a**, you didn't get very far in his administration. Just like most if not all politicians, he had to pay back favors by bringing in some of his cronies from Orange County, where he was with the department, and others. He didn't just give them a job with L.C.S.O., he brought them in at rank such as sergeant, captain and even jail administator. He hired Chris Daniels and continued to promote him to the rank of Major, all the while grooming him to be sheriff. As far as his lying to the Grand Jury, it was just that LYING. By the way the car dealership was a local Eustis Chevrolet dealership that just happened to be where his son-in-law works and is the dealership's owner's son. You know the one where the only thing you'll like better than their prices is the buyng experience itself.
I have a close friend who is retired from the FBI tell me that it was his experience in law enforcement that made him come to believe that once a crook, always a crook. Knupp certainly fills that bill, but he is so wrapped up in himself that he thinks a simple apology should clear the slate. How can you trust a man who says he will not run for sheriff again and then prefile only three years after being removed from office. All his legal manuevering and "accepting a deal" of forfeting his law enforcement certification just laid the groundwork for this bombshell. He knows he doesn't have to be certified to be sheriff. The sad part about this is that it would not surprise me in the least if not only is he able to get on the ballot, but he will probably win.

I asked the Knupp team of crooks to look at possible criminal activites at Cross Tie Ranch. Now I know that they were probably involved.

I think Borders tactics are kind of quacky. He announced at a fish fry in Umatilla Friday night (4-25-08) that he has a group of psychics that he has hired on the force to catch crimes before they happen to allow the LCSO to go ahead and arrest them. Borders also allows people whom aren't even deputies to call him on his cell phone when they have an enemy being pulled over because campaign supporters have scanners to hear of the situation in progress and lets (friends) helping with the campaign dictate to him whether they should be arrested or not. Don't think that he is trustworthy or keeps an honest staff. You know what situation I'm talking about.

No, I don't know the situation you're sliming about. Guess I'm not one of the psychics.

I DO know the 2002 Tom Cruise science fiction movie MINORITY REPORT, however, where a group of psychics are employed by the police to stop "precrime." Evidently, this is BIG NEWS for you.

Perhaps you should reconsider changing your on-screen identity to JUST GULLIBLE.
