Federal government opens grasslands for haying and grazing

Full story: www.currentargus.com

The federal government is allowing millions of acres of land now left idle to be used for haying and grazing, after birds have finished nesting on grasslands this summer. Federal Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer said Tuesday that high crop prices and tight food supplies have increased the demand for farm land. The livestock industry has been the hardest hit, with soaring feed costs and fewer acres for grazing, he said.

raising beef is a real waste of oil, water and land for the nutrition you get out of it.Plus, they don't treat the manure, most of which just runs off into streams.

Better for all of us for beef to be grazing on natural food. Smartest thing the government has done in a LONG time.

You have been al gored. Cow Manure is a great fertilizer, ORGANICALLY speaking. There is no need to waste renewable resourses. Grow crops, make oil for diesel and ethanol. Take feed cake residue , feed to cows, fertilize more fields, the cycle continues. Don't Listen to Al Gore and get us dummied down. Listen to a rancher or a farmer.
