This is ridiculous.
She has no business even being considered for this.
What's next, if the president dies, then the first lady should take over, not the VP?

If the job does not require an elected official, why not let the Govenor of California appoint them all, think of the savings.

"If the job does not require an elected official, why not let the Govenor of California appoint them all, think of the savings." --dolt

this is the process to replace an elected supervisor that is unable to complete term (death, injury, jail....)

The governor appoints one until an election is had.

LOL - you are kidding right? She has got more experience than both of the other candidates together. It is Roger's seat until the END of his term. This happens quite frequently when a politician dies midterm and his or her spouse is qualified to take over.
Go whine with Bonnie and John over this. Johanna is the perfect choice for us in the 2nd district. BTW - why do you as a joker from Blue Lake think that you can tell us in the 2nd district who should be appointed.
Blue Lake....let me see...are you someone who is concerned that you won't be able to bribe Johanna with 10k or what?

Well anon sounnds like you have a real issue with negativity. Calling people names because you disagree with their thought. The 2nd. district has a history of in your face politics. I do not think Bonnie and John are whiners, but you sound like one. How do you know LOL is from Blue Lake?

Rob Arkely and Red Emerson have written letters of support. They are not from the 2nd district.

Roger's body has barely got his cowboy boots off before her wife tries to take political advantage of his death.

Never too soon to keep up the gravy train at the expense of this thing called letting the people decide.

Bravo, Johanna would be the best choice to finish out Rogers term.
I am sure this is such a hard time for her we should all be proud that she has stepped forward to fill this void left by Rogers death.
I would hope there would be some way she could run for Rogers seat to fill his next term.

Just a money grab for one of the few good jobs in the county. Shame on you, Mrs Rodoni. Why not let his body cool before you step on it to get a leg up.

And no, I don't think being the recording secretary of the women's auxiliary pie-making grange qualifies you for being a supervisor.

How rude your comment is ,Johanna had no choice but to make this application in a timely manner.
This is what Roger would have wanted.

The question is "not what Roger would have wanted" but what is best for the county.

Of course she had a choice. She took the low--but well-paying road--stepping on the corpse of her husband and the swell of condolences to make a little money despite what is best for the county.

It occurs to me that an additional way to continue Roger Rodoni's legacy, after many years of public service to the residents of the Second District, and at the same time settle a divisive Southern Humboldt controversy would be to rename the Bear Canyon Bridge between Garberville and Redway in his honor: the Roger Rodoni Memorial Bridge.

I agree that Johanna would be the absolutely best choice.

She has been involved in the community for at least as long as I've known her & Roger, almost 20 years. But more than that, she is smart & dedicated.

How about the smarter and better connected and better educated possibilities who just are not in the limelight right now?

The Governor should make sure he has a least two or three possibilities before just knee-jerking to the tear-jerking.

Wow, lots of nasty, inappropriate comments. It's too bad people can's show a little more humanity given this tragic death and sudden loss, even if you didn't agree with Roger's politics.

I like and respect Johanna, having worked with her through the Buckeye Conservancy, but I think there are some other considerations regarding making an appointment.

The June election is only 5 weeks from now, and the winner of that election will be the next regularly-elected supervisor. It would be better for continuity for the Governor to appoint that person to begin serving in June, rather than January of 2009. Otherwise whoever gets appointed now will only serve for 6 months before being replaced by the newly elected supervisor. It just creates a lot of churn for that seat that could easily be avoided.

Rogers accident was tragic. Even though we often disagreed, I'll miss him and his colorful personality. My prayers go out to Johanna and the family.
