Kind of funny Glass and Betty Chin up for the same award. According to an article in the Advocate Newspaper several years ago,Glass wanted Betty tossed in jail for feeding the homeless.Guess the ACLU has a short memory.

I suppose there could be valid arguments made for a true ward system but there are just as many, if not more, arguments for keeping it the way it is now. Either way, the local ACLU is really having to search if they're using this campaign for a true ward system as having to do with individual liberty. It's more a matter of city housekeeping business than anything else.
And, as someone pointed out earlier, if anything, Larry Glass has acted against individual liberty by supporting outdoor smoking bans and mandatory garbage service. A real bizarre choice for the ACLU to pick. Boy, have you got it wrong! It was estimated that Robin Arkley Jr. spent about $250,000 on an 11th hour TV/radio/newspaper blitz to oust councilman Chris Kerrigan from a second term. In that race, Kerrigan spent over $90,000 and his right-wing opponent spent $120,000! Anyone who acts like they don't know who benefits from $100,000 elections in a rural city is a liar. In the last 35 years only 6 candidates have won without the backing of the development community. Can you name them? With the new Supreme Court ruling, Arkley won't have to use a lawyer in Sacramento sworn to secrecy. The simple fact is this: Unlimited dollars can now be spent on political media, however, in a true ward system, the candidate lacking the developer's largess still has a chance because they can physically visit EVERY voter in their ward to counter the media lies! Visiting 13,000 homes in the final week of an election is IMPOSSIBLE! Which side are you on? Tyranny or democracy? It's a simple question that the ACLU knows the answer to.

Nope. Unlimited money can be spent under the True Ward system, too, and it can be argued- most people I know feel this way- that the negative campaigning was what resulted in Kerrigan's win over Bohn, although some, like myself, question whether the negative campaign was actually bankrolled by the Bohn side of it.
Besides, your example above shows that your guy won even with the system we use now. Where there's no hard, there's no foul. The money doesn't matter.

This is a small town, it doesn't take much for
a person running for office and their team to
speak to the voters. Two people who spent a
lot of money and didn't win were Cherie Arkley
and Polly Endert. I am very much against the true
ward system. We have been able to oust any
candidate we didn't think was qualified.
Somebody that has business sense, please run
for my ward to replace Mike Jones the dummy dodo.

I think you're right about the negative campaign blitz sending Kerrigan over the top, he had gotten himself into some odd controversies in that campaign. However, it remains true that no one can name more than 6 candidates that have EVER won without the usual development community funds. Please address the most OBVIOUS and SIMPLE fact about the true ward system that our predecessors to wisely created nearly a century ago: Regardless of the unlimited dollars spent on political media, in a true ward system, the candidate lacking the developer's largess still has a chance because they can physically visit EVERY voter in their ward to counter the media lies! Visiting 13,000 homes in the final week of an election is IMPOSSIBLE! Visiting 1,500 is doable!!! Without a true ward system the process is nothing more than a charade. You've obviously made your choice for tyranny.

Haven't you considered that it might just be that the majority of the voters might agree with the developer's choice in candidates? Most of the people you hang with obviously don't, but I'd suggest you and your friends might well be outside the mainstream when it comes to what people want happening with Eureka.
