Hislop to throw hat in the ring for sheriff

gallegos is a great D.A. he has done a terrific job i cant think of anything wrong he has done, id vote for gallegos any day!

I know these guys. Let me say even though Mike Downey is a "nice Guy", he is totally inept to run the department. just one of the problems With Mike Downey is this, If one person askes him a question one day, he will answer it the way You want to hear it. If another person askes him the very same question the next day, you will get a totally different answer, that will suit your needs.
Just be an Honest guy Mike Downey,(I know you will have trouble with that, but just try) and stop being a politician, an speak the truth and let the chips fall where they may. You are running for the Office of the Sheriff, NOT A POLITICIAN'S OFFICE.
I will wait to see who is running and listen and use my knowledge then vote for the most honest one.

Hislop is nowhere near qualified for this office. By all accounts he was a mediocre cop with EPD (that's why he left- no upward movement left). By everything I've read, he's been mediocre in his position with the D.A.'s office.

He has literally no managerial experience, and doesn't seem to have any idea about what even his current job description consists of. Very poor choice for a candidate in this race.

Gallegos is a breath of fresh air? This could be the single most staggeringly blinkered statement published in any T/S blog ever. Ever.

Since when hasn't the sheriff's office been rooted in politics? Or any law enforcement agency, for that matter?

I've met Mike Hislop on several occasions and at various functions. He is definitely the most qualified candidate for Sheriff. He's friendly and approachable. When you gget your head out of your a&$, take the time to talk to hiim and ask him where he stands on various local issues. You may be surprised.
The DA's office has seen many major changes over the years beginning with getting rid of the dead weight that's been plaguing that office for many years. Paul Gallegos has modernized the office and brought in some of the most talented Deputy DA's he could find. Many of their records are flawless. There has been more wins during Paul's term than ever before. Again, take the time and look up the facts before spouting off at the mouth. Especially those of you who don't even live here.

What are you thinking (while I agree with you)? One cannot engage in any sort of civil discourse on this website. Let the crazies run their candidates: alcoholics, nerds, and otherwise inexperienced folks. It will be funny to see how badly the vocal minority fails in this election. Maybe Hislop won't win--while very qualified--because he got a late start, but Hagan, Bryson, and whomever are laughable.

Mike Downey is already a leader of people and making the decisions necessary to run an effective department. He cares about his community, the people who work for him and doing the right thing. If you have ever worked for him, met him or sat in one of his classes you would know he is the right man for SHERIFF!!!!

A DA who hired an sst DA who's son died at Jonestown, A DA who refuses to report or acknowledge that their is a rape epidemic in HBLDT, A DA who's CAST program and VWM program is a farce, A DA who surfs on the clock, A DA who allows judges to be racist and fascist, A DA who is a spoiled yuppie,

Downey will win and then in 5 years will retire you watch and remember

Well first of all Mike Hislops father in-Law is former Chief Investigator Jim Dawson !! So now you know the truth of "How he was picked for his current position" Sorry DA Paul !!! Under Sheriff Mike Downey is going to be a great future SHERIFF of Humboldt County. many look forward to his visions and Kind but stearn leadership.

Yes I used to think that until I realized that Gallegos was as manipulative and abusive as any politician. This man played the community to get elected. Now he hides in his office, only comes out if there is significant outcry on an issue.

And regarding the interpretation of the law Gallegos is inept. He spent tax payers dollars to prosecute individuals with misdemeanors when if fact they were infractions. His office also violates individuals civil liberties by failing to inform them of the charges filed against them. More to come on this issue and others. 2010 is really going to be fun!!!

Talk about being honest... You apparently do not know Mike Downey. I do not know Mr Hislop, good luck. But for you to say that Mike Downey is not an honest man and that he will say what anyone wants to hear, is a lie. Why don't YOU be honest and tell all of us that have read your rediculous post that you are an angry person that has no integrity or respect. I hope you have some kind of moral conviction and recant from such a blatant lie.
