This is EXACTLY why people over 70 should have their licenses REVOKED.. look at the national average for accidents among age groups.
People over 70 get in MORE accidents then people 16-18. i mean COME ON!
They make special little buses for you old people!
GET THE HELL OFF THE ROAD! Before you kill your self, or someone else, namely your little 5 YO grandson.
You all drive 50mph on the highway, DON'T use your turn signals, MERGE without looking, and generally SWERVE all over the road!!
And to top it off all you old bats drive HUGE boats that are going to fly outa control and kill someone! You geezers need to be driving SMART Cars, or something else where if you crash you'll only hurt your self..
Remember the old person who mistook the gas from the brake pedal and DROVE THOUGH a farmers market and killed people ? and it didn't happen just once!!
"I didn't see them coming", yea because your a dinosaur with bad eyesight, RIDE THE BUS!!

As for me, i feel safer around a drunken circus clown driving a school bus then some 80year old who cant see or hear and reacts at the pace of a snail!

p.s. who ever let their kid sit in the "front seat" with granpa psycho should be ASHAMED.. any child at 5yo should be in the BACK in a booster seat.. BAD PARENTS!

who are you to judge? this could of happened to anyone of us. that's why it is call an accident. as for you putting down grandpa because of age, wow, you should check yourself, before you know it you will be in your 70's and realize that some elder people are still able to drive and function just like the rest of us... Age has nothing to do with this. and were did the "psycho" come from I didn't recall reading that.

Jim, I havn't checked out the rates myself, but I can say over 20 years of responding to emergencies in a 50 mile radius from Hoopa on very bad roads, we very rarely went to a crash that involved an elderly person at fault. I can think of a couple but typically it's young males.

The same thing goes for the Eureka EMS Area and Donner Summit and Fremont. It's just not that common. Tragic yes, but doesn't rise near the level that they should all have to take the bus.

So I think you're over reacting big time. Prove me wrong, I'll go look at your stats.

OK, if we say people over 70 shouldn't be allowed to drive, than people with an IQ lower than 70 shouldn't be allowed to drive either, so we'll have to revoke your driver's license.

Get real. This was not an "ACCIDENT". An accident is something that may not have been avoidable. Call this exactly what it was, a lack of attention and or judgment. Unfortunately there were 3 innocent victims to this persons actions. While I do not advocate restricting driving privileges for any senior I do think testing more often for them would help determine which people still are capable of driving.

This is why children under 12 aren't advised to sit in the front seat. This poor kid probably wouldn't be as hurt had he been in the same carseat, but in the middle or back row. Parents and caregivers need to know simple carseat safety.

Someone pulls out right into the path of an oncoming car and you call that an accident. Well then I start waving a loaded gun around your house and it goes off and hurts or kills you and that's just an accident too. Let me know when you are on the road and I'll stay home if your judgment is that poor.
