The True Anonymous wrote: <quoted text> Uh... no. A CCW does not give the holder of the permit carte blanche to blaze away every time he or she is in an emotionally stressful situation. I’m sure there is someone here who can quote chapter and verse. The standard is the same as for police officers; use of deadly force is permitted if there is a reasonable fear of serious harm to self or others (admittedly the wording of the law is a tad bit more complex). Thus, if the guy is stealing or has stolen your car and is speeding away, you DO NOT have the right to blaze away at him. If the same person has your car and is trying to run you down, or makes clear the intention to run you down, then you most certainly have the right to protect yourself. The issue here is if the fellow who did the shooting feared for his life and safety, or if he did the shooting to prevent someone stealing his stuff. I guess we will never know what happened, will we? The problem is that this carjacker will not go away just because the Times Standard and the Sheriff's Office fail to do a follow up press release. He'll disappear for awhile, lick his wounds and then he'll be back to attack, steal and commit another crime on another citizen most likely. Then they, and people such as yourself can step up to the plate and act important again with your hindsight wisdom. Out of sight, out of mind. He just stay out of the cities and off the 101 N/S.

FYI Guy
Santa Rosa, CA

You have to really ask the question why they never released the so called victim's name and what is their motive for not doing so. Even if the Sheriff and DA continue to hide this guy's name from the public we can still get it by filing a Freedom Of Information Act request. It should be public information since it pertains to Public Safety. If anything this incident shows the lack of any mental health facilities to deal with the violent mentally ill in Humboldt County.

"Humboldt County Deputy District Attorney Arnold Klein, who prosecuted the case last year, asked Hinrichs to send Baltzley back to state prison when he was sentenced. Hinrichs opted to suspend Baltzley's three-year prison term, instead handing him five years probation, time Klein said would have been better spent behind bars.
”There were some deep-seated issues with him,” Klein said in an interview on Friday.“He had the makings of a serial killer.” "
The reason why rural Humboldt County is one of the most unsafe places in all of California to live in and has such a high rate of missing persons and murders is because of priorities by the DA such as this. They spend all their time and energy prosecuting, letting go, then re-prosecuting a kid that gets off on beating and killing family poodles, yet they don't bother to prosecute a real life deranged potential serial killer wandering down the lanes of Highway 101 and attempting a violent carjacking, nor do they go so far as to even warn the public of his identity. Humboldt is and always be a podunk county run by insiders that are still stuck in the dark ages. If you don't have a cousin or sibling who is connected or don't donate money to one of the politicians who run things in Humboldt, you get royally screwed by these people.

Substitute Slanderer

Thanks to the Times-Standard and their crack team of investigative journalists in uncovering this dangerous man's identity and seeing to it that he has been charged for his crime. Will you be hiring any substitutes to carry on your slander campaign against the general public any time soon?

The results for the fingerprint match should be in any day now on that carjacker. LOL. The DA will make sure his 215 is up to date for his handicaps.

Who's the next contestant on "The Price Is Right"? Will it be another wayward traveler packing heat, a hired hand or a sun hardened local? Will they spin the wheel for a win, strike out, or score on the board like the last two contestants did? The grand prize could be a permanent vacation at Pelican Bay or San Quentin for our three time losers.

Who gives a ship what happens next. That's somebody else's problem. There's more interesting case stories for the Sewage Slimes Slandered to report on in the LA area than in south and southeastern Humboldt.

Where did the Times Standard/ Redwood Times follow up article to this story go Thaddeus Greenson? The part where the DA was reportedly going to charge the victim with felony carjacking?
