Your problem Michele, is that you think the Times Standard has reporters left, they don't. All they do now is print out stories from the Associated Press & print out press releases from locals.
In order to have your daughter's fine accomplishments recognized in our local "paper", you will have to learn how to send a press release.

Oh, Boo Hoo. What about the accomplishments of local teachers, nurses -- you know, people who actually make a difference. Not someone who plays a friggin' game. May I suggest that you put aside your vanity and that of your family?

You are more likely to see a large marijuana leaf on the cover of this rag than anything about local sports or even Bay Area sports teams. Just start your own website and do your own publicity. Don't waste your time with this place unless you have something to do with marijuana or cut-and-paste AP articles that no one here cares about.

Please wait...
Didn't the TS just lose a sports reporter? Has that person been replaced? And aren't newspapers becoming more cash-strapped every day, due to a decline in their popularity? But they should be every bit as robust as when you were growing up?
And what crust, to complain that your darling child isn't featured in the paper. I agree, in part, with a previous poster. If your teenager is a golfer, you better send a press release...

So "several outstanding local athletes" is really just this mom's daughter who won an obscure event. Poor kid, nothing like being made a fool of by mom in the daily newspaper.

Well I'm sure the TS will be falling all over itself to write quarter page articles now that you've so kindly brought it to their attention. Truth is, now that they've sued the Eureka Reporter out of business they have no reason to go beyond reprinting the wire news with a few local stories that have been spoonfed to them.

Yes, the coverage of the Humboldt County Women's Tournament was lame. Not only Britney was left out but Betty Larson also, along with everyone else. Oh!!! And I understand that a person on the HCWGA made a excutive decision to pay the TS over $200.00 to thank the sponsers that suports this tourney every year. Something wrong with this picture.....

OMG...Perhaps if you PAY for an ad your talented daughter would be properly recognized. You seriously need to get a life and stop embarrassing your child. Narcissus would be proud.

I believe the point Michele was also making is the fact that the Mens County Amateur golf tourney had lots of coverage.......and no one made a personal press release. This is a "sports page" article not a world affairs or health care issue. Just a little bit of men over women in the Redwoods. If it was football, The Crabs, basketball its there. If its womens crew, golf, tennis, or gymnastics......good luck!

And what about women's softball? HSU? Local high schools? Are you including them? Or HSU and local high school ladies basketball? Soccer? You have not seen stories of them? Nor have you read a father's letter to the editor about his son. Or a mother's letter to the editor about her son.
"If its womens crew, golf, tennis, or gymnastics......good luck! "
A cheap shot by a female sexist.
