1 Being thrifty makes him a bad mayor? I applaude anyone who can keep from paying a tax. |

I second that!! |
||||
Kitty would lose 80% of her support if Torrey just rode a bicycle and parked it at Symantec. |

As it is, she's already lost a lot. The woman has accomplished NOTHING since being in office. Wait, I take that back, she has managed to turn Eugene into one of the most business UNfriendly citys in Oregon. |

Kitty Piercy is the candidate that represents what REAL Eugenians want. As far as business goes, The only "unfriendliness" so-to-speak has been towards developers did not fit into the "eugene landscape" or those who wanted huge tax incentives. Remember the forefathers who were entreprenurial innovators giving us the saturday market for example, a place for LOCAL businesspeople to trade. This was as much of a direct benefit to the community then as it is today. I have seen Kitty at the saturday market, I do not think Torrey knows where it is. I am sure Torrey can find Valley River and Oakway Center as this is what he wants for Eugene - More Corporate American thieves who do not only offer no direct benefit for the people of our community (the money does not stay here), they don't offer much of a benefit for our country!(as most of the goods purchased there are imported from other countries, many of them violating human rights and labor laws, which are a stark contrast to what most citizens of eugene value and want for the world) In a nutshell Kitty = Local intrests, Torrey = International Corporate Criminals. Remember the motto "Unique Eugene". Kitty is quite unique, Torrey is just another blowhard trying to takeover one of the best locally supported economies in our country and hand it over to Corporate Crooks so he can join their club.

WHo are you or she to decide what the "Eugene landscape" is?? In a nutshell, what's-her-name + cronies = continued favoritism of pet projects that help only an elite few typically. I saw growth and prosperity in Eugene under Torrey's watch. I have seent he exact opposite under what's-her-names watch. |

Either you understand what the core values of our community are or you don't - I have not created this notion nor has whats her name, we only appreciate what a special place this is to exist in and wish to preserve it's personality. For those who do not appreciate it or wish to corporatize it there are plenty of places for you to reside in other cities and towns across the country.(springfield is close, but maybe you should move a little farther away - the east coast sounds like it suits you better) As far as "Growth and Prosperity" are concerned you must be talking corporate again. Take a drive up coburg road - sounds like you may really enjoy it. Especially the giant walgreens they just built right next to a locally owned pharmacy that has been there for 20-30 years, maybe you'll run into one of the business owners that got kicked out of their buildings after 25 years so they could build the shining corporate structure - this is your "growth and prosperity" in a nutshell -is that what you want for eugene. Walgreens is not putting their profits back into eugene. this is one example of many if torrey is elected. None of this is good for eugene. do you understand. this is what torrey wants. he wants to be part of the club. GREEDY CORPORATE THIEVES.

Well as far as growth and prosperity. I would like to see whats-her-name just try to keep what we have here. She has done nothing but lose jobs since being in office. She's anineffectual nit-wit and you can throw out all your party bumper-sticker jingoism (if you don't like it, leave - etc) that you want but the fact remains, she has done nothing but grease the palms of her south eugene friends. And a few crumbs have fallen to you little people in the streets and you think that makes her your personal messiah. Get a grip. |

hahahaha I LOVE IT! The Register Guard has even jumped the sinking Piercy ship! They are endorsing Torrey! That says it all right there....hahahahahahaha |

and I personally called on Jim Torrey as a memeber of the school board and pleaded with him for help enforcing the districts policy on zero tolerance for bullying in schools and he did nothing to help my child. Nor did he help when my child almost lost a finger during school "structured and supervised activity" due to a machine malfuntion. All I wanted was for the district to pay my medical deductible and they flat out dodged and refused. I am gald he touts himself on the air as " a person who cares so much about kids" what a Croc o crap!
I am not sure if you know how many pies Mr. Torrey has his hand in but I can asure you would be shocked if you really knew. He has more business ties than one would think. My vote is for Kitty for a realistic approach to what Eugene needs. As for the register guard jumping ship...LOL I guess if it was a real newspaper I would value it's opinon, but it is simply recycled news that is always a dollar short and a day late. Jobs will come back to Eugene Kitty can't be blammed for the economy...that's for George. |

Jim Torrey has no control over what happens in schools. Susan Castillo, Oregon Superintendent of Public Schools, a democrat and liberal, is the person you should be complaining to if you can't get satisfaction at the school level. No mayor of any town has anything to do with that. Thank the liberals for your predicament. |

I certainly do hope Torrey has more business ties than I think. Kitty has all but run out every major employer this town has. Hynix and Peace Health come to mind.... We need to encourage businesses to come to Eugene. Not the opposite. What's-her-name is a not-wit and the fact that an extreme left-wing liberal newspaper like the Register Guard is snubbing her speaks volumns about what's-her-names track record. |

I lived here in Eugene through Magana, Lara, and the military assault on the Whittacker neighborhood. This all looked very familiar to me, a pattern of authority abuse that was supported through inaction by Jim Torrey's office.
Ultimately I am a supporter of Kitty Piercy's reelection because of her leadership presence. She has been there on the pavement with greater energy than we have seen in Eugene in some years. She has impressed me with her broad understanding of the community as well as her collect demeanor. She has not always supported policies that I would support, but her ideals are formed from a well rounded set of ethics. Her basis for decision making is internally consistent and moral. There is clear evidence that this is not the case for Jim Torrey. His policies and actions as Mayor and on the School Board suggest that his ideals are not internally consistent. Rather he is buffetted about, changing his tone and hessage to ingratiate support from his audience. His inconsisten support of short term projects that were good for already well off members of this community while leaving long term planning to the wind left a mark on this community that has still not healed. Jim Torrey is a tainted politician. He has given money to support the reelection campaign of George W Bush in 2004, at a time when the majority of this community could clearly see that the president had long since thrown out the rule of the Constitution. If I had not witnessed first hand the poor leadership, outright pandering, and emotional upheaval comming out of the School Board I might give him a pass on this personal act of vile complicity in the evils of the Bush administration. I attended those school board meetings, they went on late, but Jim was the only one sleeping. When he came out of his oblivion to stammer out some attempt at a response, he found it easy to respond to the emotionally charged dialog because it was loud enough to give him a jolt. He did not respond to the quieter, calmer voices. He did not impress me as engaged in the process. He left me feeling like I really did not have a representative on the board. I implore you to rethink supporting Jim Torrey. A new Jim Torrey mayorality will be frought with trouble for this community. I do not wish to fix the potholes in his or his friends neighborhoods, while ignoring the critical needs of the older parts of our community. I do not want to spend my hard earned money of improving his particular part of W Eugene, or acting like the owners of property near Broadway and Willamette are somehow due extra consideration over the hard working folks on South Willamette or along River Road. I am urging a NO vote on Jim Torrey for Mayor. |

Oh, and Kitty is not responsible for running the businesses out of town. That has been driven by a community that does not appear to be willing to sacrifice some hard work and a bit of urban blight.
We don't have to rally against every employer who wants to displace wildlife in favor of jobs. Although we must always seek a balance between the greater need and our own, we cannot go about constantly sacrificing our own needs. Hynix was not allowed to grow the way they wanted to. The land use laws in this city make any new development insanely cumbersome. This is due to the mindset that no comprimises can be made. Don't blame Kitty for that. The sentiment has been here long before she took office, and I have never seen her or her associates picketing against anyone. |
||||
by stealing it from someone who paid? That is not thrifty, that is a misdemeanor. So much for law and order... |
||||
I personally witnessed the lax attention and misguided leadership of Jim Torrey on the school board. He was certain to snap out of it for emotionally charged arguments, but the softer, wiser voices were ignored. The school system in this state is crap because of the Republican Party, Bill Sizemore, and measure 5 which provided 'equity in schools'. There are folks who take lemons and make lemonaid. Then there is Jim Torrey and his bunch lamenting the moldy dried out lemons that they left to waste. There are plenty of schools in this state that are thriving, but with the upheaval and artificially emotionally charged failed leadership comming out of Jim Torry and his pal Superintendant George Russell, this city is not improving. Jim is a opportunist looking to advance himself. I have looked into his self serving eyes and his nature seemed very clear to me. |

You have no evidence of that. Urge to your heart's content. She's going to lose. |

I cast my ballot already and I voted for her.
Say what you want about The Register Guard backing Torrey. But the fact remains they flip flopped. I wonder how much that cost Jim Torrey. And as for his business affiliations, I was reffering to how many business's he has that are his and his family's. Like the billboard advertising business etc. with his hand in so many pies how can he devote adequate time to being an effective mayor at a time when Eugene needs a fully committed mayor. As for Susan Castillo- if you want local help you have to start local. I started with the 4J school district office about the bullying...It seems to me that they would uphold their own policies. However they apparently learned nothing about being sued and loosing when Casey was beat up on the school bus. That got national attention...is that the kind of leadership Eugene needs? That occured when Jim was in office. I am starting to believe you (Dr. Dirty) are on his payroll or a family memeber...maybe your Jim or is he your daddy? |
