I'm trying to find info about a person who abducted, raped, and murdered a woman about 30 years ago in Callao. All I remember is that the girl was kept in an old mine...I am related to the victim and would like any info available. Thank you...Oh, and the person who did it was James T. Please help me.

Tutttles bridge was named that because that was there old home place where Jim grew up. Thats not where they found the girl and her name is not Julie Helton that was a totally different murder. This girl was working at a diner and the story I was told was jim had done something to her car to make it break down and he stopped and picked her up and brutally raped her and killed her.

From what I heard Julie Helton was found on the railroad tracks and the suspect - who got away with it was our esteemed Sherrif Dawson, when he was much younger of course. I will poke around for you and get back soon with whatever I find.... Im good at this kind of thing ;)

Im good at this kind of thing ;) Your talking about a case that had nothing to do with the tuttle murder and another thing Bob Dawson had nothing to do with it. The cop you are thinking of is swank. Its people like you that get bad rumors started. If you dont know what your talking about keep your mouth shut before you ruin someones life over something they had nothing to do with. Ive known Bob Dawson all of my life and he might be alot of things but a rapist and murderer isnt one of them.

I doubt if Julie Helton was even alive when the Jim Tuttle murder took place and if she was she was in diapers. They also convicted Jim Tuttle and hes in prison as we speak for the murder that we are talking about it had nothing to do with Julie Helton.

My memory is not great, but what I seem to remember is that T. murdered a young woman who worked at a diner in Moberly. He told her he was having car problems. And that after work when she returned to Macon, if she saw him broken down, could he get a ride. I believe she was then sexually assaulted and then strangled with her panty hose. He abandoned her body at an old mine around Bevier. But the girl had told coworkers about his car. So, after he was questioned and confessed, he took them to her body. This is a just a vague memory of the facts, so I would welcome any corrections. It was also published in a true crime magazine at one point.

There was also some question about possible involvement by a man named Swank. The waitress murder in question happened in the '70's, I believe. But the Helton murder was about '84. Dawson was credited for gathering "brain fingerprinting" evidence in a confession by Grinder. Grinder alledged having accomplices, but nothing ever connected them to the crime. Grinder was also believed to have murdered two teens in Arkansas.

Wasn't the Helton murder done in the auto shop of the Macon Vo-tech School? She was hung from a "cherry picker".

Tuttles bridge gets its name because my great grandfather owned the land on either side of it a long time ago. That said I would like to tell you I know very little about this myself. James tuttle was my great uncle who I have never met and didn't even know I had until I was sixteen. After I came across your post. I asked my father about it. My mothers side never talks about it. He didn't know a lot but he said there was a magazine called true dective that it made the cover of he wasn't sure what year some were between 67 and 68. Sorry I can't be more help

Grinder was convicted of the Helton murder after confessing to it. Swank worked for the Macon P.D. and was tied to the crime by Grinders statements but was never convicted due to lack of evidence. It sounds like your small brain is mixing up names and events in totally different crimes that you know nothing about.
