Horse Case Investigated in SD

does anybody know how to get this on "Imus in the Morning"? He is a rancher and a horse lover.

I cant believe anyone would even dream of this! Seriously i would definatly watch your back, i garuntee someone-if not everyone- will be out for your hide. and i dont blame them. I would KILL someone if they touched my horse. Im so sorry Wendy.

I can not believe there is still no arrest made. One thugs father is a saddle maker and has made the comment he has deep pockets. I think I have heard that this horse was found on his property. I think he should be tried with theft or accessory after the fact, if nothing else. Its apparent he condones what his son did. They are all lowlifes.

This story really needs to be getting world wide attention. I'm not sure how to go about that? The saddle maker isn't going to have deep enough pockets, because the Rodeo community will not let this go. Prayers to Dually & Wendy and they also have a benefit fund set up in Mitchell, SD.

Stanley Countys State Attorney says no decisions have been made yet on what type of charges, if any, will be filed in the much publicized horse theft that ocurred July 5 at the Stanley County fairfrounds.
Tom P.aher says he is "not satisfiedaaaa' that the investigation is finished and has asked the Stanley County Sheriffs Office for more information. He says ther is no timetable on when he will decide how to prosecute the case.
The rodeo barrel horse "Dually" was reported stolen from the fairgrounds and later found with multiple injuries. The event of the injuries has not been released. While many area residents beleive the horse was tortured, Maher says he cannot make that determination yet. He says that is why the investigation continues.
Maher says if he decides to charge someone, he says the defendant could be arrested outright or he could take the case to a grand jury first.

does anyone know how the horse is? have names of the suspects been made public?

I am just sick about this!!! I can't stop thinking about what the horse went through & why someone didn't stop it or come to their senses!!! I am wondering if we should start writing The states attorney of stanley county letters of concern about justice for Dually. Otherwise it may get pushed under the rug. And where are the animal rights people? Are they getting involved???? They better be, this cause is worth it. I would even start a petition or organise a civil picket about Justice for Dually!!!! I think these young men should be taught a big lesson & what kind of people are these guys & their parents should be more then ashamed because there is NO way of condoning these actions... Period!!!! We as horse people need to rally to Wendys & Duallys side!

I spet my summer months raising horses with my grandfather in Ft. Pierre.I say we spred their lags apart,calf rope them,beat them,and leave them for the ever-loven rats.

Is something going to happen in this case? It appears they are not going to say one way or the other...just "something will happen soon". I think "soon" was up a long time ago. Either do something about it or tell us there was no crime committed.

I AGREE this is crazy!!!! We all should write to the states attorney and express concern & that we want answers & justice. They would have killed him the way it sounds. You hear so much, but the truth is the horse WAS TORTURED & I heard "out to pasture" is all he will be able to do now!!!! These people need to own up to what they did. If they had any character at all they would of stepped up & tried to heal what they have done. Instead the cowards hide & make excuses!!! Pathetic losers!!!! IT DOES NOT MATTER THE RACE< THIS IS A CRIME!!!! Scalping is way to good for them

Exactly let's not forget that he's most likely never going to be able to compete again. The ones that did this are free to go to rodeo's, they should be banned from every rodeo association out there.

I think they ought to boycott that saddle makers store and then watch his deep pockets dry up.

Since when is stealin a horse not a crime?

Maybe he ought to go find a different job.

E-mail to the governor of South Dakota 7/30/09

The whole country is watching to see how South Dakota handles the horse that was stolen and abused. Dually, continues to be at the vet clinic almost a month later, that's some pretty serious injuries. I rodeo'd for many years in the WPRA and at times you have to stay over at unfamiliar places. You really should not have to worry about something this brutal happening to an innocent animal that should be safe in a stall. Many of us are concerned that the States attorney for Stanley County - Thomas Maher is hoping with enough time we will forget about this crime and it is a crime. I'm sure you are aware of this story but it never hurts to let the Governor of the state in which this happened know that not only South Dakotan's care about justice, but the whole country is concerned about justice for Dually. It would be unfortunate for the positive economic impact that Rodeo's provide in South Dakota to decrease due to the way this case has been handled. Thanks for your time.

I sent this to the Govenor because this story isn't going away. Even if the ole saddle maker thinks he can buy his son out of this trouble maybe he should have spent that money on some kind of rehab clinic before this happened or possible done a better job teaching him respect for others, empathy, and drugs ruin your life.

I'm pretty sure a seasoned rodeo horse has heard fireworks a time or two. I'm also sure that a horse doesn't tie themself up and torture themself so badly that they are at the vets for weeks on end. Sounds like JUSTICE you may know a lot about what happened. I hear there's a reward for info leading to an arrest from the SDRA it was up to $1000, just in case you are interested.

My parents raised me with respect for my horses. They were always taken care of before I did anything. They also taught me drugs will ruin your life, compassion for others, not to steal, just a few lessons parents teach their kids. I am going to judge in this situation, not a real good job of raising him. If he had issues, they should have addressed them before now.

And do you know all the facts so that you can make the comments you are making?
If you have a kid that gets in trouble and you keep baling him out instead of teaching him respect for authority aren't you a little responsible too for his actions?

I read or heard someplace a parent said something to the affect, no problem, we have deep pockets,
which I interpret to mean we can buy our way out of trouble.
I don't quite agree on that as being the right way to teach your kids to be responsible for their actions.

Maybe if the pockets weren't so deep, "little boy blue" would grow up a little more responsible for his own actions.

No judgement to it, just common sense.
