I recently found out that a Franklin County Teacher is not being tenured so people are asking for your help so Hollie Bailey can teach! As most of you know, Hollie has been notified that she will not be teaching next year. She spoke with Dr. Sharber on Monday and was given very little information. Here are the details.... Dr. Sharber is not granting her tenure. SHE has had excellent performance evaluations as well as excellent recommendations. The only reason she would give Hollie is to say that she didn't think she would benefit Franklin County. As a result, the way the policy reads, Hollie will NEVER be able to teach in Franklin County again.

you wanted her you got her...remember the good ole days when we had teachers instead of dog and pony show online classes. and teachers Like Mr. Jolley didn't have to be afraid to do his job. No one questioned why she was fired from Williamson co...all I heard was Jan Tavilin at wcdt slobbering all over hinmself about her. Makes ya kinda of miss Edmonds..remember him Superintendent of the year of the State...don't look for that happening for mealy mouth, vindictive becca..for those who want to know why she was FORCED TO LEAVE WILLIAMSON CO.she fired a beloved teacher who happened to be married to a commissioner and the teacher later died of cancer..and the entire city turned against her and WE WERE SOOOOOOO LUCKY TO GET HER...WEREN'T WE..

I don't miss him. It is my opinion that Mike is the reason we are in this mess in the first place. Mike's life revolved around making Dr. Edmonds life hell instead of doing what was best for the school district. People now realize that the schools would be alot better off if Dr. Edmonds were still here. Instead, Mike and Dr. Edmonds are both gone and everybody else is still here paying for their pissing contest.

Every time I see the AOL ESP on a posting, it reminds me of Dr. E's most able assistant and confidant, Ben Elliott!! Still glad Dr. E is gone, don't agree with hiring Becky either. Our school system will most likely never recover from both!! Will always believe Mike did a great job!!

FC has tried electing and hiring the DOS with little success in the last few decades. It seems to always turn into nepotism and cronies regardless. We seemed to do much better with education before the state and federal government got so involved. Back when the BOE was in the court house with a Superintendent, secretary, and attendance officer we were doing a much better job with the students. Bigger is not always better; just consumes more money!!

I keep telling you that Mike had Becky pegged from the git go!! Now she starts with this threatening crap instead of tweaking her budget. Threats to close North Lake and Sewanee if she does not get her way are uncalled for and very unprofessional; reminds me of Obama threatening to do away with Social Security!!I don't think she has the authority to shut down a school. She needs to clean out the CO before she starts closing schools!!! More in Friday's H/C!!

Dr.S is a joke, she does have a leash on the 2 guys named Chris and That Commissioner from Sewanee, who would never fund Education before this year, now raising taxes really high quickly is nothing to hear him say.The whole meeting the other night looked like it had been rehearsed.Careful who you elect and hire.

Wake up Franklin County, time we start electing a DOS and paying more attention who we put on the school board. We need people that can prepare and manage budgets, not just throw more money at an attempt to educate!!
For the 2011-2012 school year, the Franklin County School System has sufficient money in its fund blance but projects a $3 million shortfall in the 2012-2013 budget.
Commissioners and School Board members met Tuesday night at the Franklin County Board of Education where commissioners rejected the school board’s budget and asked $300,000 be cut from their 2011-2012 budget. The number $300,000 would be 10 percent of the expected $3 million shortfall.
Franklin County is required by state law to increase its funding to the school system each year through its ‘maintenance of effort.’
Director of Schools Dr. Rebecca Sharber warned commissioners drastic cuts may have to be made including closing some schools, eliminating bus routes (with the exception of Special Education) or firing teachers without adequate funding from the county.
"Nobody on the school board wants to do anything like this. But we cannot add funds to the budget. We can only subtract," School Board member Chris McDunough said after Tuesday night’s budget workshop. "The County Commission needs to decide if it wants to invest in its community's young people, or to hide behind unrealistic campaign promises."
Commissioner Arthur Knoll told Dr. Sharber the idea of closing any schools is "a non-starter" in discussions with the county.

It costs as much to send our children(10k/student/yr)as most 2yr college students pay.We have way to many administrators with 100k salaries and permanent jobs(patting each other on the back, bragging about what a good job they're doing) and tend to overpay for supplies and projects that would be scoffed at in our personal lives.I seriously believe private industry could more efficently operate our school system.

Arthur Knoll also said raising property tax 55 cents was the way to go and he accepted the school budget at face value. He also called 126 dollars on 100k,nothing and looked around and called out other Commissioners after years of being against funding for schools, look his record up,all of a sudden he has done a 180,wake up people he is just doing peoples dirty work. When something smells it is usually a rat.

Good gracious...is this woman begging the county to buy out her contract? Everything she is saying seems to be nothing more than the 3 walnut-shell-game that magicians pull on bystanders at booths when attending County or State Fair-grounds or along the entrance to a visiting Circus.
Is she pulling a slight of hand on our County or is she being truthful? I never was good at guessing the shell game, so I sure don't know what trick is being passed before our eyes.
Lets hope the county commissioners and our county mayor stop this silliness before it gets too far along.
Speaking of the county mayor, why in the world did he agree to have the county commissioners start meeting at the BOE? BAD MOVE Mayor Stewart!!!! Here is a proven fact...the folks in CHARGE always meet on their turf....not on the opposing team's turf.
