I can assure you that America isn't leading in the world morally anymore. With this dumb notion of "Country first!" you are trailing Germany by 70 years now. And I'm really sad about this, no schadenfreude at all!- God bless America after all.

The Republicans are professional/ruthless campaigners. They will happily sacrifice the well being of the Nation...Just to win an election.

Besides terroist Bill Ayers, Sarah forgot to mention the radical Rev. Wright's 20 year association with Obama, or his envolvement with Tony Rezko and Acorn. She also forgot to mention his cohorts, Dodd,Franks and three's connection with Fanny and Freddy during this financial meltdown. What his actual motives were with his community organizing, To many other questions about him are unanswered and why he refuses to explain them.

(I'm just happen to be in Amsterdam right now - not to confuse you over that big world outside your microcosm any more ;-)

I wonder if reasonable Republicans (like George F. Will and others) feel the same sense of shame I do when they look at the campaign that Palin (and McCain, by proxy) is running right now. I have to believe that even if I supported the same policy positions, it would be tough to accept a victory for my party if it were propped up by a campaign based in part on subtly inflaming racism in the worst elements of my base.

Les Payne provides convincing evidence to show that McCain/Palin are trying to distract voters' attention from their inadequacies by appealing to hatred. I am disgusted by their tactics.

McCain and Palin are bent on winning this election anyway they can. They cannot win on substance so they are using their hateful rhetoric to tap into the fears and prejudice of the american people to divide us as a nation. Once McCain and Palin achieve their goal of turning whites against blacks, whites against immigrants, and bring in the social issues, they will probably win. And, nobody will even notice that McCain is a hypocrite putting "self before country."

It is a shame what this election has come down to, but frankly I am a little surprised it took so long.
Most of the country isn't as open minded as we like to pretend it is.:(

I cannot imagine that Republicans / McCain campaign staff really think their Pitchfor and Torches rallies are going to get undecided voters into their corner. Perhaps this would work in 1930's Germany, but let's hope it doesn't find a home in the 21st century USA.

I used to admire Mr. McCain, but now McCain and Palin actually scare me. And I'm white. I can't imagine what anyone who isn't white is feeling or would feel if they won. Wow. I didn't realize our country was still so racist. Palin seems to bring the racist kooks out of the woodwork. I can't believe she actually has a chance to be our vice president. We've come a long way, baby. Right back to the 1950s.

ironic that the neo-cns claim to be Christian but act like evil demons in their grab for more power. They are unAmerican.

Equally laughable is the McCain camp's attempt to paint Palin as a "reformer." Her record shows just the opposite. As mayor of Wasilla, she raised sales taxes to build a sports complex. She hired a lobbyist to snare $27 million in earmarks from Washington.(Isn't McCain campaigning against pork?) She chaired a fundraising committee for indicted Sen. Ted Stevens. Her husband belonged to, and she was active in, a campaign for Alaska to secede from the United States. And she was for "The Bridge to Nowhere" until last week, when she suddenly came out against it.

This is really funny. It's a classic ploy by someone under fire to distract you. So the Obama camp cries racism and diverts your attention to defending that. Why? Because they can't defend how:

1) Obama did a dirty real estate deal supported by a friend and now convicted felon, Syrian Tony Rezko. Rezko's crime was selling his influence with Illinois politicians (like Obama) to people wanting to do lucrative business with the state. His help to Obama - buying a worthless lot adjoining Obama's mansion for $600,000 so that Obama could buy his mansion.

2) Obama's relationship with Rev. Wright. Obama has no answer for how he sat in those pews for 20 years and listened to racist, anti-American rhetoric. And then Obama disavows Wright, after saying "I coud no more disavow him than my own grandmother". Well I guess he would sell his grandmother out if it meant winning an election.

3) Obama's relationship with Bill Ayers. How can a Harvard educated attorney think we would believe that he had no idea who Ayers was, and was just a guy from the neighborhood, when Ayers orgnaized fund raisers for him.

4) You cannot even get a rational answer on how a man who was a Senator for 153 days before running for Preisden tof the most powerful nation on earth is somehow qualified to lead.

Keep your eye on the ball - the hatred stuff is designed to keep Republicans on the defensive and keep Americans from looking at the real issues.

This type of behavior makes me realize that it's not McCain and the Reb party, per sey.. which dis-attracts me so much. Rather, it's the type of supporters they draw-- some of them are the rich at everyone's expense type and others are well.. these types.

It was VERY NICE of John McCain to defend Obama nicely like that. He could have been subtle but he did it from the heart. He has a history of non-racism, and in fact, even has an adopted child from Banladesh. So I doubt very much he harbors any racist feelings- and in fact, has stated in the past he considers everyone equals. He appears to be a good guy, a true war hero, in fact.

I am an Obama supporter, but some advice: Be nice and respectful! Win or lose, it's the attitude which counts. I wish Obama would have accepted and thanked him, pure and simple. Not thanked and then attacked. And please, Obama- respect your vetrans-- no health ad attacks like that against McCain please. McCain appears to have more spirit than Obama and Palin combined, at times--really.

Good post. I am an ardent McCain supporter since he was #8 in the primary polls.

Beyond partisan politics, we need to return to a two party system where there is respectful dialogue. Vote for your candidate based on the substantive issues, like what he has accomplished, what he stands for, and who he stands with.

Curious, as an outsider, who you believe is going to drop a nuclear bomb on the USA? Could understand that fear during the4 Cold War, but which of the US's enemies has the capacity today?

McCain/Palin display no end to politics at it's worse. They have both become liabilities to our Country, and are both no more than clowns at this point. There is a new, and usually well proven scandal coming forth daily. McCain's co-prisoners in VietNam have alledged that he made over 30 propaganda tapes while imprisoned, and the alledged "bomb" incident. My concerns are his apparent lapses in morality, judgement, intregrity, character, greed, and out and out lies. His resume' and 25 years in Congress speak loud and clear. He is the lesser educated of the candidates, and has been a professional politician. He has done very little in his 25 years to help middle/working class Americans. I am also concerned with his history of adultery, gambling, the Keating5, and his having known corporate lobbyist working close to him for the campaign. He hasn't demonstrated Presidential qualities at all, and neither does his running mate.
