I am sure that the justice system will hold him accountable. I think you should be praying for his family and him in the aspect that it could be you or your family. Yes HE is a great man. Well at least his family will still have him ALIVE HUH? We will never get to say goodbye to our loved ones. He has to pay regardless how great he was.

I could not believe that this has happened to my best friend, i always talked to her about everything, she was like my second mom. I do not know why this had to happen to their family but oneday i will know when i get to heaven. I miss her terribly, school is so hard without her, i always went to see her everyday at break and any other free time that i could. I miss her terribly, but life has to gone on, although we will always remember her as we walk by her class room everyday at school, she will always be in our hearts and never forgotten. I love you Shyla, Phillp and Haylie!!

Thought you might like to know that Kaytie underwent surgery last week in an attempt to correct her right hand/arm. She has bracial plexas aversia. What that means is the nerves in her right arm were totally disconnected. The surgery the VanAlstines have chosen to see is in Jackson, MS at UMC. He took the nerves from her (good) right arm and realized they were not long enough and then he ended up taking the ones out of her leg to implant into the right hand. Within 6 months to 2 years, we should know if the surgery was a success or not. The custody dispute between both sets of grandparents has not been settled. It is my personal belief that things will get better for both girls when a judge has ruled on this issue. I don't know what is taking so long! Avery seems to be the same, but still asks for her mama all the time. She is very close to Diane, Shyla's mom. She's a doll and a handful! Kaytie has to be exhausted by going from one house to the other each week, but she keeps on keeping on. Shyla, Haylie, and Phillip's presence still doesn't seem gone. It just seems like they're gone on a really long trip. We are trying, at VHS, to go through the motions, but miss them greatly. I pray that Kaytie will be just fine and God will direct the judge on the best decision. I know most people don't realize it but, the Issacsons moved from Missouri to Lucedale, MS several years ago solely to help with those grandkids. Shyla's parents and Phillip's parents kept them 50/50 each week and I know love them. It just breaks my heart. Shy - We love you sweet tater .... I sure do miss you saying, "Mornin Beautiful" to me every morning. VHS is not the same wthout you. MISS YOU GIRL...... The new country song "I Still Miss You" had to have been written just for her.:)

Kaytie, what a brave little one you are. We pray the surgery will be successful. To the grandparents, shame on you. You are acting like disgruntled, divorced parents using the children and making them go back and forth. You should be mature enough to make the situation workable instead of making it tougher on the children. Yes, the court has to be involved for the legal custody issue, unless a will stated who was to take care of the children, but you could make it easier. If there was a will and you are contesting it, shame on you, acting like Phillip and Shyla didn't know what they were doing for THEIR children. We know you only want the best for Kaytie and Avery, but what you WANT and what they need may be two different things, please don't make it any harder.

I do agree with you completely about forgiveness. I feel compelled to write this even though no one will probably see it since the last comment was in August. To begin with I totally understand the community's feelings about the lady who hit their van. Let me say this, she is just as loved and respected in this community as Mrs. VanAlstine is in yours. She and her husband are both long-time educators in our community. Reading the comments about Mrs. VanAlstine, they seem to be very much alike. I know that when word got out that the police weren't going to charge Mrs. Fort because there wasn't enough evidence, your community was probably outraged. I'm sure you wondered "who she knew that got her off." However, the police did the right thing. They didn't stop their investigation at that point. What some people don't realize is that vehicles have a little black box on them just like airplanes. As they continued their investigation, they checked the found reason to look at the black box on the Waste Management truck that was behind Mrs. Fort's van. It showed sufficient evidence that he was the one who caused the accident. His vehicle hit Mrs. Fort knocking her van into the VanAlstine's van. He has been arrested. At this time, I do not know the status of his case.

I hope Shyla's parents have gotten custody of the children. I am Phillips brothers x wife. In my option Carol VanAlstine is not fit to raise Katie and Avery. I witnessed first hand how she treated Haley. I wouldn't let her babysit my daughter. I saw her hit Haley in the head with a hair brush and pull her hair. Haley would run and hide under the dining room table to get away from this woman. I hope there was a will. I know Shyla would not have wanted her kids to be raised by the VanAlstines. I know these people have issues. They treated my daughter badly. I'm glad to be out of that disfunctional family.

Nothing like an x family member to run their mouth and slander good people all over the internet.
