Very Good! Now that you have proven that you have a grasp on how things work, you may continue to observe. Union thugs....CLASSIC! What about the non-profits? Those taking a free ride with their access cards? When it comes to high taxes, plenty of blame falling on deaf ears. You could relocate. If you can't then it's your own fault for not handling your finances well enough to enable yourself to move if need be. You also won't be watching my taxes go sky high either......I don't live in Erie. CIAO :-)

Tax No More, you posted earlier that you don't live in Erie and it says that you live in Los Angeles. Why are you so worried about what is going on in little ole Erie? What does Erie and its tax system have to do with you? How does it affect you? You're on this board to instigate because you are anti-Union. You don't like being taxed but demand that the government supply you with services.

State: Michigan
Approximately 6 weeks ago, my boyfriend broke it off and preceded to return a gift bag full of cards and letters I had sent.
I was so distraught that I took everything out and burned it in the breezeway of my apartment complex.
My neighbor (a buddy of my ex) called the police and fire departments and a report was filed, although I was not arrested, and no property except my own cards and letters was damaged.
I later found out that the neighbors were gunning for me to lose my apartment and have protective services take my children away, due to this incident.
I proceeded to issue a formal written apology to both the apartment complex, and each of my neighbors, as well as personally speak with each of them regarding my indiscretion and promising to never allow it to happen again.
They did not call protective services, but I have since had to find a new place to live.
I received a notice from the district court 3 weeks later that I am being charged with arson (MCL 750.771A is the law I broke, to be exact) and I appeared for arraignment where I stood mute for my plea, because I am a single mother with 2 children and didn't know how to proceed, but also knew that
I couldn't go to jail.
I am scheduled for a pre-trial on December 5, and was told I make too much money to qualify for a public defender in our state (Michigan), however, I cannot even afford to buy groceries at this point, let alone retain a lawyer.
I am afraid I could lose my job, my home, my kids, if I am convicted, as the maximum punishment is $500 and 93 days in jail.
I will be obtaining the police and fire department reports tomorrow.
**********
The firefighter, on December 28, 2006, attempted to kill herself in a vacant house owned by her father.
Wolski started a fire in a bathtub by igniting a pile of clothing. When the heat became too intense, she threw a pan of water on the blaze.
After dousing the fire, Wolski made shallow cuts (hesitation marks) across her wrists with a knife.
She called a family member for help, stating that she had tried to kill herself by smoke inhalation.
Four fire department units rushed to the scene where a firefighter added more water to the smoldering clothing.
In April 2007, the district attorney of Erie County decided not to charge Wolski with an arson-related offense.
Shortly after the district attorney's decision not to pursue the matter, the fire chief, citing the fire setting as the reason, fired Wolski.
In December of that year, the Erie Civil Service Board upheld the dismissal.
Set out in its report, the civil service rationale was:
"The act of establishing [setting] a fire in a residence is wholly incompatible with the role of a firefighter, despite the mitigating circumstances of Ms. Wolski's psychological state."
Does the fact Wolski set a pathologically motivated fire, then tried to kill herself, make her unfit to be a firefighter?
What if she is confronted with another tragedy, and is given depression medication that induces suicidal thoughts?
If she had been a police officer instead of a firefighter, would the results of this case been any different?
What if she had been a public school teacher?

Make sure you pay them on time so that I can go on the first of my 4 vacations this year. I'm planning Hawaii, Aruba, Las Vegas and possibly England. I'll send you some post cards......:-D
