Well, Mr. Union lover....if you and your Marxist union where/are so aware of problems you claim exist/existed; if Barker embezzled public funds, than why has your all-knowing union stood up for the citizens and challenged the claims of impropriety by the Erie School Board and Jim Barker ? Here, let me answer that for you: "I gots mine. Scre tbe taxpayer" !
First off, my job is to teach children (often pointed out by people on this forum) not to police the finances and account for the ESD's money. Go after the controllers for that.
Now you wanna dog me for looking the other way on this matter? Well now YOU know about it. Don't you have a responsibility to do something about it? If you don't then you are no different than I am! I bet if you went to the news media and showed these posts, SOMEBODY would do something about it. Somebody, somewhere would get the ball rolling on this matter and change this. Isn't that your goal? What are you waiting for?
You are just like Joe Doakes or Doakey or whatever moniker he uses, YOU HAVE NO B A L L S ! It's easier to plant yourself in front of a computer and whine like a little B I T C H than to actually do something constructive about it. THIS is the reason why I am so arrogant about this matter because you RETARDS won't do anything other than post on this forum. I laugh everyday about this:-D

<quoted text>Joe you post rants like this because you WANT people to think that our Union is responsible the budget crisis. Welfare is more damaging to the State and it's budget woes than anything else. Pull the plug on that and Happy Days will be here again.
What are you and your union doing to decrease welfare? Graduating kids that can't read or write is guaranteeing that they will have to go on welfare to survive. You are creating more welfare recipients by failing to do your job. Blame yourself for tha massive amount of money being funneled to welfare instead of education.

First off Barry....you have no clue what I've done in my life. So, again you make assinine assumptions. Secondly, you wrote trash about alleged wrongdoings by ESD hierarchy and when I called you out for not doing something about your allegations, you want to challenge ME to act on YOUR allegations because you make some anonymous assertions of wrongdoing here, on TOPIX ?

BTW....thanks for using the new word I taught you...."monicker". I'm amazed that you would copycat the vocabulary of a GED holder, working for a garbage company ! I'm flattered.

Once again Barry, you are full of feces.

First off, I don't care what you've done in your life. Your existence is of little consequence to me. As long as you keep paying those property taxes, your life has no other meaning for me. 2nd, it's above my pay-grade to act on any wrong doings by my superiors. 3rd, I'm not challenging you because you are NO CHALLENGE. You won't act. It's easier to be a keyboard cop and try to stir everyone else up to do what you wish you had the BALLS to do.
Kenyan, the only thing you have taught me is how RETARDED and LAZY posters on this board are. I used to be kind and obliging because I didn't want to piss off a tax-payer. They might turn others against me and then my easy money will come to an end. Turns out I don't have to take your crap or kiss your ass. Nothing will happen to me. You come on this board expecting to get blown by a few ESD teachers and you're still mad that I won't lick your ass for you because you are a "tax-payer". Big Deal! So am I! I don't owe you ANYTHING!
Great job on that GED! Your parents must be proud. What GED class did you graduate from? Do you know what we teachers call a GED? A "Good Enough Diploma". Fitting that your garbage diploma got you a job with a garbage company.

Erie teachers, district OK contract
BY ERICA ERWIN
erica.erwin@timesnews.com

The last time the Erie School Board and the Erie teachers union met for contract talks, negotiations had lasted more than a year and teachers had threatened to strike.

Not so this time around.

The teachers union and the School Board on Wednesday approved a five-year, early-bird contract that will, by its end, boost the average salary of an Erie teacher by as much as $10,000.

Teachers overwhelmingly approved the pact during a closed-door afternoon meeting at Erie's Grover Cleveland Elementary School, 1540 W. 38th St. It will go into effect July 1, the day after the current contract expires.

Carol Laskowski, president of the 1,000-member Erie Education Association, said more than 70 percent of the membership cast a ballot, and 93 percent of those members voted for the contract. She would not divulge the exact vote tally.

"Teachers want to make sure the district, the students and the parents have five more years of stability," Laskowski said.

The Erie School Board passed the contract at its Wednesday night meeting, though not without reservations from one board member.

Jeanine McCreary, the only member to vote against the contract, said she was worried about how the long-term deal would affect taxpayers.

McCreary also said the deal did not give the board and the district the latitude to place the most highly qualified teachers in the district's neediest schools, or address diversity in the teaching ranks.

"My vote is not an indictment" of teachers, McCreary said. "It's a vote of concern over the students and citizens of Erie."

The new contract includes annual average salary increases of about 4 percent that will cost the district another $2 million a year through 2013-14, based on current staffing, district business manager Rick D'Andrea said.

The increase will boost the average salary for full-time Erie teachers from about $49,000 in 2008-09 to $59,000 at the end of the contract, though that figure could go down if the district replaces more experienced, higher-paid teachers with new teachers, D'Andrea said.

Under the new contract, a first-year Erie teacher with a bachelor's degree will earn $37,121 in 2009-10; on the other end of the salary scale, a teacher with 18 years of service in the district and a doctoral degree will earn $71,228. Those salaries will increase to $41,901 and $76,898 respectively in 2013-14. Teachers will pay more for their health care under the new pact.

Teachers currently contribute $20 a month toward health care costs for single coverage and $30 a month for family coverage.

Under the new deal, that number will increase to $60 per month for both single and family coverage by the start of the fifth year, said Richard Perhacs, the lawyer representing the district in the negotiations. The district will continue to pay for health care for retirees, up to age 65.

Board President Jim Herdzik and board member Mary Frances Schenley both said they felt the contract was fair, and that a five-year deal was necessary to ensure stability in the teaching ranks. "We as a board are going to have to make sacrifices and budget cuts in order to afford the most essential (component) of education, the qualified teacher," Schenley said.

The negotiations, which began in April, unfolded in a markedly different way then in 2004-05, when the sides last sat at the bargaining table.

The current contract, which expires June 30, was approved by both sides only after more than a year of debate over salaries and health-care benefits. The union in November 2004 voted to authorize a strike, if necessary. The strike never happened.

Erie schools Superintendent Jim Barker said the early-bird deal was a "reflection of the collaborative approach" that now exists between the board, the administration and the union. He pledged to work with the board to minimize any effect of the new contract on taxpayers.

Means nothing to me. You are grasping at straws.
You also forgot pay compensation for those involved with "special needs" students. When you dig that up, I'll be impressed:-)
Also coaches and teachers involved with extra-activities get more compensation. Like I said before, 90K.

I'm saying it! Saying it with a smile while I'm living the dream. You mad? Why don't you move to Wisconsin? Last Tuesday you were singing the praises of Walker. He curbed the Government Unions and their taxes STILL haven't gone down! Face it, you made some terrible life decisions in your early years and you want Union workers take less to help you pay for it.

BTW, I went on Politics PA and read the Democrat hopeful's "five point plan"- it is embarrassing; all vague slogans, no details, a Sixth Grade Student Council platform. Is this all the local Democrats could come up with?

Walker DID curb Wisconsin .gov unions and reduce taxes in Wisconsin. The state now has a budget surplus. So again, like the liar you are, you spit out more lies while ignoring the facts.

Once again you write of jealousy. As I've written before....private sector unions are fine. It is the .gov unions that I abhor, especially .gov teacher unions.

Why don't you make reference to my earlier remarks as noted above ? You want to recall my comments about Governor (Still) Walker but you ignore my arguments against the marxist that comprise your .gov teachers union.

You are a POS. Never say never.

There's a big difference between a budget surplus and a surplus overall. A budget surplus means that they are saving above and beyond what was budgeted. They are still in the red though depending on how much of a budget surplus they have. If they are behind 50 million and acquire a budget surplus of 2 million, that leaves them 48 million in the red. Noteworthy but at this rate it would take 25 years to get everything even. Thats akin to using a garden hose to put out a house fire. Now if they had a surplus THEN I am impressed.
I ignore your comments about Marxism because you are entitled to your opinion but I don't feel Marxism applies here. Again, it doesn't matter what you call it, as long as my paycheck clears at the bank.
Your "Never say never" slogan falls short of catchy. Sounds like a rejected title for a James bond movie.
