Fr Hoffman was a great rector. The problem is that St. Jude is filled with a-hole parishioners who think that since they have money they can dictate the way the church is run. The other problem is the cult of personality around Fr Kreigal. Kreigal played them all like fools and they liked it so much they want another" Puppet master" to come in and make them feel important again. I can't wait until Fr. Detish starts kicking some azz out there. Smug pieces of skit parishioners.

He must be doing something right to pull a large share of parishioner from St. Judes and other parishes. Erie Catholics are voting with their feet and Kriegel took St.Patricks parish that was 85% empty and now the pews are filled. Do you think he is doing something right or the other parishes are doing something wrong?

Maybe rather than criticizing Kreigel maybe we should visit his parish and understand what he is doing right and copy it at other parishes and other dioceses. It is easy to criticize it is difficult to be constructive.

And this is not a wealthy parish vrs poor parish issue. St. Patricks and St. Hedwigs are in the poorest parts of Erie. But with a Pastor like Kriegel they are growing, their bills are paid and they are thinking about major building renovations.

Kriegel's homilys are very well thought out, relevant, and memorable. In short he is not wasting everone's time with the sort of homily that most Catholics have grown accustom to. Kriegel speaks of a God that is good and forgiving and welcoming. It is only man that is flawed. He instructs on church, architectural, and world history and makes it all relevant to our lives today. He offer tools that you may use to better understand what is going on in the world today and how to try to live a good life. The Church has a lot to learn from Kriegel. I wish he was writing his homilys down.

You follow him because he tells you what you WANT to hear, not what you NEED to hear.Every priest knows that he is NOT to encourage parisioners from his former parishes to follow him to his new parish. As much as they may want to, A good priest knows that he should be giving the same teachings as any other priest. Yes, there is a cult of personality going on and unfortunately you are caught up in it

I so don't miss Catholics or the Catholic Church in Erie. Wow.

that parish is run by a few of the rich folk who go there. they thought is was acceptable to wear daisy dukes(or shorter), half shirts, they would show up late and leave early for mass. this is unacceptable, but if you complain to the bishop and threat to quit donating money you can get the results you want. fr. hoffman is a great priest who tells it the way it is. St.Judes doesn't like to hear the truth. a bunch of rich snobs always getting what they want. disgusting how the bishop caters to the rich, he should start standing up for his priests, good thing he is retiring this year!

Luke... Kriegel never mentions other parishes or to my knowledge has encouraged anyone to leave one parish for another. And yet they do.
Also what "teachings" you are talking about specifically but Kriegel is not doing anything or talking about anything that is not Catholic. He is "Kosher" by every Catholic standard I am aware of. Refreshingly he does not encourage radical changes to how we practice the mass like they do at other parishes. Some parishes I have been at stand after communion one week and kneel the next, some hold aggressively encourage hands holding during the our father and other parishes are dominated by misguided but well meaning choir directors. Some Vatican 2 compliant parishes like holy cross are a free for all hogepodge, do-it-yourself mess.
Kriegel does also attract Catholics that are tired of the frivolous changes to our mass that seem to be imposed on the parishioners. St. Patricks is a sanctuary for Catholics that want to kneel after communion and find electric guitars and drums distracting. At St Pats the tabernacle was not moved into a side alter or closet and there is no liturgical dance. The priest is not a dictator and also isn't a Vatican 2 Hippie. He is just doesn't treat the parishioner like children and doesn't waste their time with a forgettable homily. He treats the homily as an opportunity to help parishioners better understand the time we live in. I know this is radical but I heard that he actually spends 8-12 hours of preparation time for each homily. I do not miss other priest's homily's that include jokes, highly personal stories, personal emotional interpretations of current events or politics, movie reviews, song lyrics, general complaining, or just plain winging it.
most priests could learn a lot from Kriegel about how to speak. Instead they feel threatened...

Mrs, Carey is the principal at our Ladys christian school. I do beleive she is a direct relative of satan. With all her stupid rules and regulation, i.e, after school pickup takes 40 minutes sometimes because they release students one at a time. You can imagine how long it takes to do this when there are 400 students. They begin lining up inside the school gym at 2:30. And are not released until 3:10. Thats 40 minutes that kids sit in a gym waiting to be called to go home. Oh yeah and she also made every car have a plastic sign with our last name on it and the poor janitor has to come out into parking lot with a pen and notepad and writes down the order of names from first car to last. Then they radio into school one by one the children to be let out of school. It is a complete mess. And the first week or two of school there was over a hour long wait to pick your kid up from school. That means at 3:10 when school was let out officially, the last groups of children werent picked up until after 4 oclock. Her goofy idea was not received very well by working parents or parents that are on a schedule. Some parents get there at 2:00 so they can be first in line to pick kids up. Imagine leaving your house at 1:45 every day to pick your kids up 3:10. Waiting in a line for over an hour everyday. When people pleaded with her to change it. She simply said "no". She is always out of the building sick or has days off. She does not respond to emails or return phone calls. And most of the older kids can not stand her. She is not a very nice person and it shows. She does not participate in any of the schools athletic games. I have yet to see her at any football, basketball, soccer,swimming meets,she also forces kids to assigned seating at lunch everyday. This may sound trivial but the kids should be allowed to sit where they want for lunch. I mean its LUNCH! the students are also reprimanded and sent to the office for wearing the wrong colored socks. And at lunch kids are continuously being told that they are not allowed to get up and get a drink of water and are not allowed to go to restroom when they ask. They make them wait. She is turning this school into a very unhappy place to be. Some kids have often told me they feel like they are in jail. Heard a rumor that she will be fired at the end of the school year. I pray to st jude that she goes back to satans lair. What a b*tch!

YOU are the problem not the principal. Your kids have a uniform including socks -make sure they wear the right ones. You would be the first to bitch if your child was abducted . That's why ALL the schools are going to this pick up system. Your child needs to sit with her class at lunch so the teacher can account for her. OLC has had new principals every and this is the first year that the principal is running the school and not the parents and Hagerty. People are actually looking at returning to OLC BECAUSE of the principal. Read your post over and you will realize that you sound like a bitchy ,trouble making, junior high snot. Grow up ! Your money ain't gonna buy you a new principal this year!

She was fine last year, I don't know what happened to her. You are right, we do have a uniform policy, but when teachers interrupt class time to have the boys pull their pant legs up to check their socks, that is ridiculous. The pick up system needs work period. Yes, I understand the need for the safety of the kids, but some parents work, and need to leave work to pick their children up, and return in a timely manner. Also, the kids start waiting for pick up at least 30 minutes before the actual dismissal time, and even sooner on early dismissal days. So they are actually losing instruction time. The lunch period is run like the Erie County Prison. As long as the kids behave, what is the problem with them sitting where they want? And, when they are disruptive or don't listen, then assign them seats as punishment for a week. They assigned seats from from the start, and the kids feel punished. I don't know where you heard that people are coming back, the enrollment has actually dropped. And it didn't help by her telling the preschool parents who DID NOT want to drop their children off and wanted to walk them into school because their child would get upset and cry that maybe they didn't raise them the right way.

I graduated from St. Petes in 1987. What the hell happened to Parochial education? We didn't need assigned seats in the cafe and I walked to State St. to catch my "city" bus after school. We had uniforms too but I don't recall any issues about our socks. We need a good a famine, plague, and a couple of wars to weed the weak out.
