Robert Dorler of Ohio was convicted of killing Bolo Dovoshaw in his basement. Caesar testified against Dorler and granted immunity. Ferritto and Ciotti found the body in the basement along with the old icepick to the eyeballs. The first cop called was Frank Rotunda, an ex-Bob Owen associate and confidant while Caesar's alibi was that he was at the Sports Page sucking up a few at the time of the killing. Rotunda was later found guilty of a "murder-for-hire" plot involving ex-con Jimmy Troop and die penitentiary time along with Montevecchio and Ciotti. All but Owen, Ferritto and Dovoshaw are out walking the streets. By the way, Nigsy Arnone was implicated but later acquitted of the murder of Dovoshaw. I guess Nigsy had a lot of gambling debts which they tried to prove was the motive.
Do you have any idea how Arnone got the name "Nigsy"? I'll tell you as I know a guy who grew up in Erie's "Little Italy" and was a childhood friend of "Nigsy".
Apparently Arnone as a kid spent one particular summer down in Florida with a relative. When he came back to Erie for the start of school all his local pals could not help but notice how dark his skin had become spending all that time in the sun.So.... they decided to give him his nickname..... one that has stayed with him forever.True story.

Frank "Bolo" Dovishaw also known by some as "Ash Wednesday" because of a darkened birth mark on or around his forehead area.

Ciotti, Montevechio, Ferrito, all "big names" in Erie's "hall of shame" but the godfather, if you will, of it all was James "Westfield Jimmy" Salamone who took over the Erie bootlegging business at the end of a gun and was a chancre sore on the mouth of Erie until his part in the scandal that got Mayor Flatley imprisoned in the 1950's.

I think Ray Ferritto was "The man" back in the 60s and 70s with his Youngstown/Cleveland connection. When people mention you as a hitman and you admit, people tend to fear you. Surprises me tho, all his kids are decent kids. There was a name Altadonna/Giamanco that had a Buffalo connection also but I don't know how they were correlated with Ferritto. I believe Fat Sam Esper pulled a few triggers in his day - he was a goon and a stooly and a rat who's now under the witness protection plan at some Phat Farm.
