We heard the same, " the sky is falling" when millcreek rebuilt jswilson a few years back. No tax issue, teacher layoff issue, etc ever happened. All the people who were against it are quiet now. So will the haters of a new mcdowell after it is built. Progress is not evil.

I have been watching this with great interest, on the news, in the community, and online (Facebook, especially, has had some valid questions and concerns, but most seem to be ignorant of the issues with either having some axe to grind or simply interested in playing a sort of "gotcha game".) I moved to Millcreek, in part, because of the educational opportunities for my children. I, personally, have no problem paying a little more taxes if it means a better school with better opportunities. Go for it, build a new school. Do it right. But, do it responsibly. If people who are against the school would/could put as much effort in helping to find a solution than they do into complaining or trying to place blame, this could be a wonderful opportunity. But, that is not the Millcreek way. We'd much rather try to shred other people. It's much more satisfying.
You're right. People don't want to just voice their opinions, they want to shove it down your throat if you disagree. Rarely do others offer compromise or solutions. They just want it their way only. Schools are about growing the community and offering opportunities so our children don't pack up and move out of town after they graduate

build it and they will learn....

The families at the top of the iq food chain are evacuating erie... soon the erie gene pool will be nothing but fecal sediment.

I wholeheartedly disagree with you on this. Quality people aren't all leaving, they are just not interested in taking necessary leadership roles to move ideas and programs forward in the area. Like "Redonk" said earlier, they will just get torn down by others unwilling to do what is necessary for improvements to take hold. Your post is another perfect example of how negativity trumps most things in the area.
I believe the new school is a great step for Millcreek. If our students are unable to stay in the area, we are responsible to provide the best training for them to be productive elsewhere as well. Down the road, these very students may be able to bring back some positivity to the region again. Just look at the Erie native who is trying to bring an additional 1,100 jobs BACK to Erie. The "old hats" are obviously unwilling to do this.
If we are unwilling to invest in ourselves, why would we expect anyone else to do so?
I wish you were correct, but you aren't. If you are a resident of the erie area you probabaly don't notice the gradual erosion of the community... i know the new super walmart is a real shot in the arm, as is the runway to nowhere, and the the inland intermodal plan. But... if you step back and look at erie ... it is in a clockwise cyclone filled with brown things swirling down the porcelain bowl.

Dismissing your passive racial comments...Stand Up! Take the helm! You see a problem, come forward! Help find the solution! Wait...that's too hard. Let's just complain and let thing fall apart. I'd your roof is leaking, you don't go talk to your neighbor, complaining how bad it is to have water in the house and how great it must be for you neighbors to not have a leaking roof. You FIX it. It won't fix itself.

Like I said before: if WE are unwilling to invest in ourselves, why would/should we expect anyone else to invest in us? Stop complaining, start doing...

And, yes, I do live in the area. I live in Millcreek. That is why I am responding to a thread regarding the Millcreek SD.

I agree. Unfortunately, most people just want to complain about how bad things are and don't want to step up, run for public office, or work to find solutions to make improvements in our community. Then they get nasty about the people who do try to make changes. We must invest in our future and the future of our children to see our community grow.

i evacuated years ago, sadly i still have property and business interests in the area that require occasional visits... it hurts watching everything rot away in erie... it could be such a nice area... but we need a time machine and a sewer vac to accomplish that. You are dreaming... pinch yourself before it turns into a nightmare.

I had a similar conversation with another here in Topix before. I am sorry that feel a place you obviously care for ( at least at done point...not trying to knock you here btw) has come to what you feel is a point of no return.

I still believe that if we can get the right people involved...not republican or democrat, not conservative or liberal or whatever...but people who are willing to WORK for it. The area can be successful. But, you can't have people with a lack of vision or guts for that matter running the show. Nor, can you have people only interested in making political "names" for themselves, which is what happens too often. Just genuinely concerned and caring people. No agendas, no schemes. That's how things get done.

God bless you and good luck. The person who thinks of others and plans for the future is a dinosaur in today's material world... erie is no different than any other locale.. it just has much lower standards.

So the prep alums are smarter because they pay twice and abuse the run-on sentence.
