Has anyone heard the news that county clerk Diane Thomas was fired? The official word was that she "resigned", but I find that hard to believe. Sounds like "King Simonds" has someone else in mind.

Diane Thomas was one of the most non political people in that office or any other office in the courthouse. Trust me she knows that job inside and out. A loyal employee for almost 20 years. I guess she didn't fit in with the new click. The two post commissioners need to grow some backbone and stick up for her. All that mess in the paper, they need to hear her side of the story. There's way more to this than the public will ever know.

I don't doubt it for a second. Seems our officials work on a self serving basis. Soon or later the hammer will come down and people will start to question their ethics. Not just with this situation but with the whole lot of them. We need an outside investigation past and present. It would be nice to have a local government to be proud of and that folks could trust and count on. Their is way too much self serving politics going on here.
By the way, it is my understanding that the windfall of stimulus money is just that and has to be paid back that is why you see other county governments turning it down. It is not for free. Now I could be wrong but that is the way it has been reported by other city's in Georgia. |

Do you think the county is going to pay for a CPA on a daily basis for that position?? It will be interesting to see what happens. Is it ethical for this other person to be filling this position in the interim. What is her background is she a CPA??
Why don't they clean up land development office. They have approved some shady deals. Huge homes with small septic tanks, etc. Permits for small homes and huge homes being built......... can't say that they are only inspected when roughed in cuz I think anyone can tell a 2,000sft house from a 5,000sft house, ETC.... Very shady stuff. |

You are preaching to the choir Justice in regards to the land development office(if you can call it that)! A house was built " a McMansion",(so they say) across from our house supposedly on "the footprint the single wide trailer was on" you should see it-it is in the road right of way-and we can thank our local land development office for that and oh I forgot the former commish. I called him out while they were building and he still tried to convince us that it was "on the footprint"-yeah they left one concrete block and only God knows how much that variance cost-the house was listed for $$$$, and of course it never sold. Just another spec, just another dollar, just another day in beautiful Fannin County! I suggest calling the EPA-if they get enough calls from up here-sooner or later they will drive up and check out some of the "variances" that have been granted if you are one of the "favored builders/developers".
As far as the girl getting fired if this has been such a problem, why didn't good ole commish before this one take care of it? I mean we all see what they publish-of course, that does not make it true though does it? I do not believe they need a CPA on a daily basis-how hard can it be-the money either comes in and then it goes out. The only question is DOES it come in-and WHERE does it go? Frankly, no I do not think it is ethical for someone without anymore education to take the position on, just business as usual-I think we can all figure out where this is headed. Smells like politics as usual-all the big promises were just that-political rhetoric-promises that cannot be delivered, unless heads roll down the line. |

If everyone would focus as much of their time on something more important like, child abuse, drug problems and crime in our area, instead of trashing other people, they could actually make a difference. FOCUS on the positive things in life and Fannin would be a better place. Let ye who have not sinned cast the first stone.
