That is so sad. I hope that God will be with him. He was probably a nice student. I feel for his family.

I work there, and i was there that day. Its unfortanate for the family and also sun valley because its going to hinder their reputation. I hope its a wake up call because sometimes the people they hire arent efficent enough. They have to be completely serious about the job.

The article in the newspaper states that the person is a boy, not a girl. You may have this incident confused with someone else.

I have worked for Sunvalley before. The management is not professional neither are the lifeguards! I have been afraid that something like this was going to happen for the past couple of years. The pool must have been in really bad shape for a body to be under water for a hour in a half with in a few yards of a life guard chair. That is unacceptable because you are supposed to see the bottom of the pool. The young boy was not in a blind spot in front of a chair either.

Sun Valley Beach is not a pool it is a spring that was developed into a man made lake. It has some pool like qualities such as a marcited sides and partial bottom. It still has a sandy bottom. The spring still provides water as well as an on-site well and water from the county. Because of these and other factors such as bather load and chemical reaction with containments (body oils, skin, lotions) the water will probaly never be as clear as your local Swimming pool.
The young man who drowned , while unfortunate also shares some of the blame. Questions you and his family should ask; How well could he swim? Was he swimming with a "buddy"? Did he allow himself to overestimate his ability and place himself in danger? A small number of accidential drowning do not struggle at the surface of the water. They just slip under with no sign of distress. There were 100 other people besides the Lifeguards...why didn't any of them see this unfortunate yong man go under? Because there was nothing out of the ordinary to see. Now place yourself in the shoes of the lifeguards who pulled him out... |

he wasnt there celibrating the end of the year he was there for a party for all the south cobb magnet program kids
i think the girl that person was talking about was his sister she is 1 of my friends & she cant swim but yeah the thing is that it happend right befor closing so there where only like 50 people there & there where 11 life gaurds so if he was yelling for help they would have heard him |

THE LIFEGUARDS SHOULD TAKE SOME RESPONSIBILITY!!! we were there and the lifeguards were playing around. maybe if they would have taken their job more seriously that would have never happened and he would be alive today. and for the family...im sorry that happened to your son and i hope you guys will be ok...may he R.I.P...( SUE SUNVALLEY BEACH)

I was there the day of this drowning. Alot of the kids from this group were playing marco polo. Who is to say that he wasn't one of them. I go to this pool quite alot and watch these guards and they do a GREAT JOB. I am tried of hearing that they do nothing but play around and that the management is not professional. This is a very very safe pool. There was no signs of anyone in trouble in this pool that evening. I have a son that swims in the deep end all the time so I am always watching the water and I saw no one in trouble. I totally agree with record straighter.

I am 40 + now, but when I was 9 my step brother also drowned at this beach. He also was 9 yrs old. He was in shallow water. the pool was very full. when we discovered he was missing the pool was vacated and a life guard all but tripped over him.
