enterprise edges st. andrew's; faces bay springs

[AP]ridgeland--a missed extra point by st. andrew's was the difference as the enterprise bulldogs won their first game in a month and snapped a four-game losing streak. enterprise played its best game since the north forrest game. enterprise went up on st. andrew's 14-0. st.andrew's came back to tie the game 14-14 in the third quarter. enterprise retook the lead 21-14 in the fourth before st. adrew's scored with about 6 minutes left in the game but connor beuchler missed the p.a.t. enterprise's tyler hagwood was 3-for-3 as enterprise defeated the ''smart school.'' a win feels great especially after losing four straight even though it wasn't a region game. enterprise continued its running-back-by commitee aproach with sophomore quarterback maxwell harmon scoring 2 TDS and junior running back ryan moore scoring his first career TD. HAGWOOD 3-FOR-3. enterprise junior kicker tyler hagwood has done a grat job replacing all-state kicker kevin lewis. hagwood connected on all 3 of his extra point attempts while st. andrew's missed the crucial third which cost them the game. the attention now turns to bay springs. they lost a close game to mize, 13-6. remember, mize whipped enterprise 41-13 the week before. bay springs is 2-7 and they're not as good as taylorsville and mize but they're still good enough to beat enterprise if enterprise makes mistakes. bay springs most dangerous player is their senior quarterback jonathan ducksworth. he's a big tall quarterback who can run it or throw it, kind of reminisant of taylorsville's dominique sullivan. the strenght of this bay springs team appears to be on defense. they don't score many points but their defense appears strong. enterprise seems to have turned a corner last week. if roshawn johnson returns enterprise will certainly win. enterprise faced a similar quarterback last week at st. andrew's in drew rowell who was big and athletic and contained him resonably well. this game is crucial because if enterprise wins they go to 3rd in the region. currently taylorsville leads the region at 3-0; mize is 2nd at 2-0, bay springs 3rd at 1-2 and enterprise and stringer are tied for last at 0-2 each. enterprise needs to win these last 2 games to make 3rd place. and it's a very big difference between going to loyd star, which looks like will be the number 2 team out of region 6 and puckett which looks like will be the runaway winner. they went down to loyd star which was previously undefeated and whipped them 42-17. obvioulsy enterprise would be much better served playing loyd star.

the high school football season is winding down and there are only 2 regular season games left. the enterprise bulldogs play the ninth and next to last game of the season friday night against bay springs. bay springs is one of those teams that scare you. though their record is 2 wins and 7 losses. they played mize tough last week, losing 13-6. they have playmakers. enterprise will have to watch out for tenacious defensive end ronald payton, a 6-foot-2, 240-pound senior defensive end. this game is crucial for enterprise's playoff hopes. enterprise is 0-2 in the region and making the playoffs is still up in the air. a win and enterprise moves past bay springs into third place. enterprise snapped a four game losing skid, defeating class 3A st. andrew's on the road 21-20, outgaining the saints 284 yards to 247. enterprise held explosive quarterback drew rowell to 38 yards on 7 carries. zach bond had 109 yards rushing. bay spring is salty on defense but have only scored more than 14 points in one game this year. this should be a good one.
