Enfield's July Fourth Celebration To Begin Today

"The weather so far looks great," Kaupin said. The annual festival, which runs today, Saturday and Sunday on the town green, includes musical entertainment, children's activities, an arts and crafts fair, the ...

I don't know how Enfield can call this a 4th of July celebration! You celebrate that on the actual 4th of July. Since when is it acceptable to move Independence Day to whenever you want? The towns can have a fireworks celebration any time they want and if they wanted it on July 12th, then that is what it should be named, ENFIELD'S JULY 12TH CELEBRATION!!!!! But as you can see, it is all about MONEY, Mr. Kaupin said we do better when we don't have competition. I didn't know that celebrating our independence was about competition, silly me, I thought it was about our freedom!

It's all about the $$....don't let anyone fool you. This is a great party, especially for the committee; ever see what they get in the sponsor's tent? This should be a one day event. If Hartford/East Hartford can do it in one day, why can't Enfield? Personally, I don't see the attraction. The entertainment is second-rate, the food sucks and is very expensive.

How much money exactly does this cost the Town of Enfield in in-kind services, such as police? I would be VERY interested in knowing. Personally, I'm staying home.

There are a number of towns that have events around independence day both the week before and after. If it had fallen on a Wednesday this year when is the proper weekend to have something? I am not up on my 'definite days to celebrate' etiquette.

And it's about the celebration but of course its also about bringing money into town. I suppose we should just use taxpayer money to put something on and require no one to pay a thing, or so much as one company to contribute? Then I am sure no one would complain here.

Sounds like a great weekend, regardless of what it is called. This is a nice to spend time with your family, right in your own community. To the Enfield Resident who is staying home - good riddance. Stay home and sit inside all weekend while your kids play x-box and eat chee-tos and devil dogs. I bet you complain about gas prices too, and how you can't go anywhere this summer. Here's a perfectly nice family activity right in your own backyard, shuttle bus included! But, apparently you are too good for it. I'm gald you are staying home. Leaves more room for the rest of us who just want to enjoy a nice time.

I am a resident, I personally don't like going to the "green" for this Celebration, simply put by "I agree" - T-Ville + Green = Booze or however they put it, I just feel it's a place for all of the town's losers to congregate and cause trouble.

I will say they do throw on nice things for the kids during the day and most of the losers are still sleeping the night before off, so day stuff is safe and fun and free!

I do believe Enfield has some of the most beautiful fireworks, especially when you can get close enough to enjoy them.

My biggest pain point is, why on Sunday? Why not on Saturday - we all have to go to work the next day, so now I'm going to be exhausted!!

I will "walk" down from the Brainard Rd. area and enjoy them but wish they were Saturday and will not hit the green, will be down on Route 5 somewhere.

I agree - like I said there are bad apples in every group so if Enfield Resident feels it is not their "cup of tea", they are free to stay home during this beautiful weather weekend.
No one forces you to stay out past dark, how about you enjoy the event during the day and stop complaining and look at the positive this event brings!

I think the music is great, the atmosphere ok, and it doesn't cost the taxpayers anything!!
The committee does a great job.
My only complaint is that with the fireworks being on a Sunday night it is very hard for myself or my family to go there as we have to get the kids up early Monday and we both have jobs that require us to get up early and get to work.
Again I understand that in order to get money in to put this great event on is to run the 3 days and have the fireworks at the very end.
I am so happy to see Big Shot coming back once again !!

God.... go out and have some fun ! It's a great town gathering. And it's free.. You don't need to go anywhere, stay in Enfield. Save gas. A hot dog now is less than a gallon of gas. It's great to see everyone work so hard so the rest of can enjoy and celebrate our Town and our Freedom. To "Bad Situation" call it whatever you want, but go and have a great time. I will be wearing the American Flag Hat.

Why do we even need a celebration for the City. Everyday we hear cities have no money, going broke need to raise taxes. We spend lots of money closing streets, putting fire and police resources on site for teh festivites. If I want something and cannot afford it I dont do it. So we should cut all of these funded festivites until the city has "EXTRA CASH". bacis book keeping. don't spend it if you cant afford it. Its a shame we cannot afford important things like education, but we can have a city party.. Tells you the priorities of the american public. Rather be stupid then bored.

For the less informed, the use of the word Enfield has nothing to do with the town except it is held on the town green. The event is put on by monies that have nothing to do with taxes or the town. It is, allegedly a not for profit org. It is, allegedly, a no-cost-to-the-town affair. Of course I don't believe that is totally the case.

Well, for those that have preferred parking, preferred access and are insulated from the garbage that shows up, yeah, I guess it could be a fun time. However, it's pretty clear what the hidden agenda is here, it's money, not a good time. Why, do you suppose, there are so many police at this function? Why are there so many police on alert for this function? Would it be because of the expected and anticipated entertainment from the T'Ville elite that show up? Nah can't be it. It must be because Enfield is so proud of their police force, as they should be, that once a year they "display" them publicly. Of course, we don't want to mention the lack of parking except in an area already subject to vandalism, etc.
Yeh, come on out and have some fun watching our police in action arresting the disorderly and drunks. And after that, you can return to your vehicle and have fun again watching the police take a statement, for insurance purposes, for the damage done to your vehicle, if your vehicle is still there. It's a real crowd pleaser to have to spend another hour or so after all the fun you've already experienced, to spend time, one on one, with the police.

There's a rumor Enfield is postponing Thanksgiving this year. They will be "celebrating" it on the following Thursday. Reason- All the free leftovers from the week before. Won't cost you a dime and what a great time standing around the 55 gal. drum of fire, to keep warm, having a great time with your neighbors talking about the high price of gas and heating oil. Oh yeah, the p[oliticians will be there to soothe your woes with meaningless words, as ususal.

Used to describe me it looks like. I will say, in as simple words I can for you, that you will find very few 'more informed' people when it comes to Enfield and Thompsonville specifically than I.

Looks like the 'conservative' part of the name you hide behind to attempt to belittle those here, and in Enfield as a whole - applies primarily to the amount of time you spend reading and learning.

I am part of the celebration this weekend and I get no preferred parking, and will not be insulated from anyone, not even the garbage you say will show up - but seems like you don't want to go anyway so I wouldn't require the insulation in any case.

It's not some huge display of police or a secret scam to fill someone's pockets or any other conspiracy theory nonsense. It's a celebration of the town, its people, its history and its part in our nations birth and independence.

After all you have said here about the people in Enfield, I am optimistic you do not live in town, if you do, by all means move to somewhere that you would fit in. There are plenty cabins in the middle of nowhere in the Midwest. We will remain in a community.

And all I can say to the Thanksgivng rant you made is - congratulations on learing to use a computer, it's a big step for someone after just learning to walk upright.

Conservative, we all get it - you don't like people, the police are harrasing everyone, your car is vandalized, it's a waste of money, the timing is bad, blah blah blah...so do us a favor and stay home this weekend.

The rest of us who enjoy the event will have a better time :)

CT Taxpayer - I belive the Town of Enfield is an in-kind sponsor with fire, ems, police, public works...obviously they have to be with the crowds.
It's a testament to our Public Service employees - they do a great job

If you read the post I quoted he said the townspeople pay nothing. Since the police and other "in-kind" services come out of taxpayers money, I believe I am correct. As far as public employees go, I'm not disputing that.
