Perfect spot for a Peet's - don't have to drive all the way downtown. Hope the city council approves it without delay.

Peet's is a small Starbucks. It would be nice to have a unique local business for Sausalito. But Sausalito seems to have gone the way of Fisherman's Wharf in SF. it would be refreshing for locals and tourists to enjoy something besides a corporate coffee shop.

Peet's is wonderful coffee! The waterfront would be a perfect place.
Replace coffee with coffee and they need to go through all this? No wonder everything is so expensive around here.
A huge improvement to a vacancy. Welcome Peets!
Under the circumstances, I feel Peets should not be allowed to build on the waterfront because as the article states "Peets is a formula operation/chain" and Sausalito would have to open the doors to other formula operations or chains --- does anyone really want a Jack-in-the-box on the Sausalito waterfront -- opening aPeets would allow other chains to come in.
I agree. The last thing marin is another Peet's or Starbucks. Next they'll try to sneak in a wal mart. |
We need a Peet's! For god's sake, the waterfront is dead and a coffee house would liven it up and help all the other businesses along Bridgeway.
Peet's the ideal solution. We're tired of driving all the way to downtown Mill Valley to spend our money. A Peet's would mean that people would spend locally in other businesses nearby rather than near the one in M.V. |
Mind Palm Desert before you worry about Sausalito. When's the last time you were even in town? North Point Coffee was wonderful but they couldn't make it. We're in the middle of the Bush Depression and that place may be vacant for ten years if this offer is turned down. |
Nah, if they let Peet's in, the next thing you know they'll build a new international airport in Sausalito. |
Oh yeah, the Sausalito waterfront is the perfect place for a Walmart :) But a Walmart would be great at Gateway. |
Obama depression. |
LOL! That would make air travel a lot more convenient. |
Once you make a precedent for one "formula" operation, how can you prevent others from being allowed to open shop in the same area of Sausalito. McD's, Taco Bell, Walmart Junior, no legal recourse to stop them as precedent has been set with Peets.

Sausalito gave up its soul to kitchy tourist marketing long ago. If they are worried about anything there, they should worry about Caledonia St. The rest of the town's business area was surrendered to the bicyclists and day-trippers long ago.

If they do let Peet's in I'd like to know what kind of jobs are on offer at that place. Will the folks running the store be given enough hours to make a living at it or is this a Panera-type operation where full-time is a euphemism for 28-32 hours a week w/ maybe an extra shift to bump you up to 35 hours?

Yes! Defeat Peets! We definately need another t-shirt shop, crappy trinket shop or ice cream parlour!
How un-fair that a business that acutally caters the needs of locals take vacant retail space from a store that might be able to sell post cards, SF fleeces or ceremonial spoons. I mean do you really expect me to walk 3 stores down to get a Sausalito t-shirt?! Yes, all in all, I'd rather have another restaurant that serves overprice, mediocore food. (All the above was saracasim... Peets will make a solid addition to the neighborhood). PS - I am surprised with all of the credit available to small businesses, that a new coffee operation hasn't already snapped this space up! PPS - What a dumb argument. The rules are good to have in place to keep out big box retail, but no need to fight a company like Peets. I am sure the Sausalito city leaders have more important issues on their plates... |
Are you for real? You can think of any potential laws that would allow a Peets but not another type of business? Come on now... Simply up-ing the number of stores required to define a "forumula" store would do it... This is hardly a slippery slope or precident setting case. |
God forbid a viable tenant with a useful product should rent that space. It should remain vacant and generate no tax revenue until the Sausalito thought police say so.
No it wouldn't! Wal Mart is NEVER good ANYWHERE! They drive local stores out of buisness and eliminate competition. Plus, they are the largest employer in America and treat their workers like garbage. They pay very low wages, no benefits, and actively put down any attempt by their employees to better their situation a little. When workers in a Canadian store attempted to form a union, Wal Mart responded by simply closing the store and firing all of them. We don't need that bullsh!t in Marin. |
